This idea just popped into my head, and I'm writing too many things at once already, so I'm sharing it in case anybody else wants to play with it. I'd love to see this in the hands of some of the more prolific writers around here.
Luke has a problem. Well, two actually. His incredibly wealthy grandpa wants to know he's going to have descendants; so he's just made a new will saying that the entire family fortune will go to whichever of the grandkids is most likely to have kids of their own (in the assessment of the lawyers). The old boy is likely to live another year or two, so Luke suddenly has an incentive to get himself a girlfriend.
Unfortunately, Luke has a rare medical condition which makes certain parts of his brain gravity-dependant; he can only get aroused when upside down. This isn't too much of a problem for Luke, he's learned to jack off while standing on his head. But it makes it a bit harder both to convince girls he's serious about a relationship, and potentially to convince the lawyers he's got a chance of fathering a child.
Luke has the perfect plan. There's a lot of dares going round on youtube, where otherwise sane people do something really dumb and then convince their friends to do it too. And his friend Dani is always eager to be the first in the dorm to get involved with such things. So he tells her the latest dare is to watch this video of a swirling spiral without going nuts. There's words in the background that start off as just a random collection of words, and the "rumours" say that if you listen to the words while looking at the spiral, you'll end up repeating them involuntarily for the rest of the day.
You can guess what the video really is. Luke's attempt at hypnosis, designed to convince Dani that she's really turned on by the idea of having sex upside down, and this has always been one of her biggest hot buttons, and that she'd do anything to get a guy who's willing to do that. She recognises what the video's suggestions actually were, but she is convinced that she watched it deliberately as a kind of joke, because she was already into that stuff.
Luke thinks he's hit the jackpot. Until he finds out that Dani has found some excuse or trick to get Jace (star of the college football team) to watch the video. But Jace has got all kinds of secret fantasies about the buff bodies he sees in the changing rooms, and the file's suggestions "you want a boyfriend who'd do that" finally convince him to come out. At least, after convincing the whole team to watch this video.
Luke panics when the number of unique views on his video goes to twenty, and then a hundred, and a thousand. He takes it down, but by then it's really gone viral like he initially said. People all over the world have watched it now, including almost everyone at their college.
By then, Dani's given up on tricking guys into watching the video, only to find out they're gay. Maybe Luke might find his ideal relationship by being there and being understanding when she's getting upset, so he didn't need to play around with mind control at all. But this latest craze has turned college life upside down, breaking and making relationships as different people are taken over by their new fetish, and getting a stable relationship when all their friends are going nuts might be harder than it seems.
Will they make it? Or will the whole campus be taken over by inverted orgies?
