There's a thing called a wish button. It can change the nature of reality, doing whatever you want. You just have to make a wish. Unfortunately, once you have made a wish, the button will be taken away. It might fall out through a hole in your pocket, get grabbed by a bird, get knocked off your table and roll away... something will happen to take the button out of control of someone who has made a wish. And if you try to get it back, all the power of probability will be stacked against you. And so it passes from one person to another; it's been travelling throughout history, and nobody knows how much the world has been changed.

The big problem with the wish button is that the instructions, added to the box by someone who had studied the myths, are incorrect. The instructions say that you need to press the button and make a wish. In fact it's the other way around. After you make the wish and lose the button, your wish will come true every time the button is pressed, until someone else realises what the button is and manages to get it back.

There's a load of stories that could be told about the button. One would be about a guy who's always felt inadequate about his ability to please his girlfriend. He tries making some too-vague wish, but it doesn't work. When he tells his girlfriend about it, she reassures him that she is capable of enjoying herself; and orgasms aren't always necessary. Then reaches out to take his hand and knocks a drink over, and in the chaos of trying to clean up the spill, the button goes over a balcony, and is picked up by some kid who has no idea what it is.

But it turns out that the wish worked; the girlfriend is going to have an orgasm every time that kid presses the button, and the only way to stop that is for someone else to make a wish and pass the button on. But the current holder just knows it's a thing with a button on; he doesn't know what it's for. And so our main couple need to track down the button and tell the new owners to make a wish – but this means they're fighting against all the odds that want to keep them apart, so they'll need a lot of ingenuity.
