Finn and Elias are always joking around, and they have a lot of fun pulling silly pranks on each other. Recently, a lot of those pranks have revolved around Elias's unexpected talent for hypnosis. One day, they're out having a couple of drinks, watching people; maybe daring each other to go and talk to a girl they find attractive. And somehow the conversation turns to personality types. Elias says that Finn will never get a really hot girlfriend, because he's not assertive. It's the same as with the pranks; Finn couldn't be the puppetmaster, because there isn't a dominant bone in his body.

Finn disagrees. He insists that he would be a great dom, and the only reason he hasn't done any of the fancy shenanigans Elias gets up to is because he doesn't have time to learn a complex, involved skill like hypnosis.

The next morning, Finn wakes up realising that he's drunk too much. And also that he made a really dumb bet. He said he was going to show how dominant he could be, and how he could completely be the one in control of a relationship if he just had the tools. So Elias is going to hypnotise Finn's roommate Fenella, and give her a couple of triggers that Finn can use to make her obey him. When she wakes up and sees a note on the front of the fridge, held in place by a specific magnet with a spiral on, she'll have to obey it. He can't go too hard with it; he has to work on slowly nudging her into different behaviours, so that she won't notice a drastic change. And the bet is whether he can change her enough that she's visibly taking a different direction with her life, but it has to be done without actually making her upset.

The story switches back and forth between Finn and Fenella's point of view; in a way, it's kind of a deconstruction of the way some stories on Wattpad switch between different first person narrators. Finn starts off nervous, but slowly gets more confident as he realises that he's enjoying this. First getting Fenella to buy herself a new outfit; dressing cuter than the androgynous hoodie and sweatpants that she's used to. Slowly moving on to getting her to buy revealing and even slutty clothes; and do embarrassing things like going out without underwear, flirting with strangers online, and similar. And then experimenting with kinks to see what she likes; maybe trying ABDL stuff, chastity cages, self-flagelation, or other stuff. Maybe even get her to start flirting with a colleague, not realising that Finn is pulling the strings.

The twist is that Fenella doesn't exist. It's just a role Finn is playing while following his own suggestions, but it takes them a long time to realise this. There would probably be clues to this; like Finn knowing stuff about Fenella's adventures without being told, or perhaps some of the things that people say to her when she's on cam with a stranger. Maybe some friends notice too, but they're in on the joke so don't say it outright. And the big clue for the reader will be that Finn and Fenella never directly interact; although they might remember having talked about something previously.

And when they finally realise, Finn has all the memories of the stuff he's made himself do, and how it feels. And they have to decide whether to keep on wearing the new outfits that make them feel so confident; as well as what to tell their new boyfriend.
