Rain took his bag off sitting down on the cold rock compared to the warm summer air. I looked down at the glowing blue water that was so clear I could see the bottom of it. The water was extremely deep.
"Wanna go in?" He questioned with a smile. I just looked at him.
I don't have a bathing suit.
"Do you care if your clothes get wet?" He asked with a tilt in his head. I shook my head no and took my bag off and stood up. I looked back up at Rain with a smile. He looked back at me with a smile however there was something wrong with this smile it was hiding something. "You know how to swim right?" He asked lowly stepping closer. I nodded again. "Good." He walked closer to me the smile not leaving him. He put his hands on my shoulders and whispered close to my ear. "Don't drown." I would of looked confused but then he threw me over his shoulder and jumped off the elevated rock. Our bodies hit the water and I held my breath and shut my eyes. Rain let go as I swam back to the surface. I was treading water upon the surface of the water trying to get the water out of my eyes when I noticed that Rain hasn't come up yet. I started freaking out looking below me to try and see where he was.
"BOO!" A voice yelled from behind me as he came up from the water. I quickly turned around to see a huge smile on the ghoul that was much different from the one he gave me before. "Ah it feels good to be back in my element." He spoke calmly as he crossed his arms behind his head and fell back to start floating. I remembered what Jordan had said that day about ghouls and having control of different elements. It made sense that Rain's was water it was basically in his name.
I followed Rain's lead and kicked my legs back to start floating. I stared up at the sky with all the stars twinkling around the sky then a giant water drop hanging above my head. I was extremely confused then it dropped on my face. I quickly went back to facing Rain who was now laughing.
"Oh-I'm - I'm sorry love - ha you should've seen the look on your face he laughed. I playfully splashed water onto him with a smile on my face. "Oh this is a dangerous game you're playing at." He growled lowly. If he used that voice in any other circumstance I would've thought I had done something wrong. I noticed a shadow above my head again and looked up to an even bigger rain drop above my head. It immediately fell. I went to go splash Rain again but when I looked back to where he was he wasn't there. I started looking around again and I saw twenty feet below me Rain swimming farther and farther down. It looked like he saw something and he was going for it. After around forty seconds he came back to the surface with something in his hand. He opened it up and it was a beautiful small blue crystal that was definitely broken off of a bigger one. I looked at him confused.
"Don't look at me like that it was shiny I was interested." He let out a chuckle and I joined in.
I was just concerned you were down there for a while. I told him truthfully.
"Oh no need to worry I can hold my breath for a while. Being a water ghoul has its perks." He smiled. "That's how I was able to put that water drop on your face. I can control it." He spoke. I was fascinated that was amazing that he could control water with just his mind. "Here let's go and dry off I brought food." We started to swim out of the lake and climbed back up the rock. "Don't worry I brought extra towels." He went in his bag and handed me a towel with a smile.
That was incredible!
He rubbed the back of his neck. "Oh uh thank you. I think I got a little carried away." He let out a little laugh.
I brought chocolate do you want some?
"If you don't mind, sure." He let out a small smile as we sat down on our towels and ate our chocolate.
Can you tell me more? About your element? Please? I asked with full fascination.
"Oh well it's not much really I can just control water and breathe and see under it." He spoke quietly.
That's absolutely amazing! How do you get your element? I asked with curiosity.
"Well I was born a water ghoul both my parents were and so are my brothers."
Brothers?
"Yeah" He sighed. "Im the middle child out of five. My poor mother." He laughed but looked a little sad.
Do you miss them? If you don't mind me asking. You don't have to tell me.
"Kinda. I mean I'm much happier here my um." He struggled with his next words. "If I tell you this promise you won't run?" He asked unsure. I held up my pinky to him and he crossed his with mine. He let out a sigh. "My eldest brother was brought to the church before I was and he was the one who helped um." He was picking the skin at his hands. "He was one of the ghouls who helped murder and eat that boy five years ago." He fell quiet looked down then back at the lake. "I understand if you would like to leave-." I moved in front of him grabbing his mask to make sure he knew what I was about to tell him.
Don't say that about yourself you're not like your brother you care about people and why would I want to leave I feel the most safe with you I know you wouldn't hurt anybody that you didn't want to. I told him I saw his body shake then he hugged me.
"I- thank you so much (Y/n) you have no idea how much I needed to hear that." He sobbed into my shoulder. I relaxed a bit and just held him and patted his back.
After a few minutes he pulled away sniffling a bit. "Sorry about tha-."
Don't apologize it's okay. I interrupted with a small smile.
"We should head back it's extremely late." We got up and walked to the stone stairs.
