                              Anabelle's POV
He started scratching my back.

"You know about the..."

"The miscarriage? Yeah. I do. Your mom told me. It's okay."

"You're not mad?"

"Why would I be mad? You can't control that. Look at me."

I looked up at him. He kissed me.

"This is technically my fault. My sister did this."

"I don't blame you. Oh no. What am I going to do about school?"

"I'll help. I'm sure your friends from school can help. Don't worry. You didn't miss anything with choir. The concert is next month and the competition is in two months. How do you feel?"

"Empty, miserable, hungry, thirsty, in pain. It's a whole lotta emotions."

I yawned.

"Go back to sleep."

"Noooo. I wanna talk to you."

"Baby sleep. You still sound exhausted."

"What time is it?"

"8."

"I can't go back to sleep."

I sat up.

"They're probably bringing me breakfast soon."

He sat up.

"How's your shoulder?"

"Eh. Haven't paid much attention to it. I've been worried about you."

A nurse walked in with a tray. She moved the mini table in front of me. She put the tray down.

"You're going to have light meals for a while."

"Can chicken nuggets be included?"

The nurse chuckled.

"Ani I don't think you should eat that now."

"Damnit."

Holt ruffled my hair. I put my head on his shoulder.

"I'll be back in a bit to check on you. Take your time eating."

My nurse walked away. I slowly started eating.

"Oh by the way. You're right. Hospital food is worse than school."

"See? I told you! How was the drive up here?"

"There was no traffic so that surprised me. I got here in...not even an hour."

"We should go for a night drive once. It sounds...peaceful."

"Eh. I spent the whole drive worrying about you."

"Ooo! I have an idea! We could do a night drive during Christmas. I love seeing all of the houses lit up."

"People do that for Halloween too."

"I know. But I love Christmas."

"Why's that?"

"It's one of the only times, I'm with some of my family."

"You don't do anything for thanksgiving?"

"I do. I just really like Christmas. Now...I might not."

"Why?"

"My dad's gone."

"Eh. Mine's gone too."

"You don't have one?"

"No. He's a piece of shit."

"Oh no. I-I'm sorry. I didn't know. I-I wouldn't have said anything."

He kissed the top of my head.

"It's fine. You didn't know since, I don't talk about him."

"D-do you miss him?"

"Ew no. He literally just walked out on us. Anyway, how's your hospital food?"

"It's actually decent for once. Do you wanna try it?"

I tore off a piece of the muffin. I handed it to him. He took it and started eating it.

"Okay that is decent."

"Ew. They gave me grape juice."

"Ah. I don't like it either. Tastes like allergy medicine to me."

"Same to me. I hate anything grape flavored now."

"Same. Actual grapes for fine."

"True. I love those."
