Summary: Gahyeon and the reader receive exciting news whilst on vacation in Jeju.

The trip to Jeju Island had been lovely so far.
You and your wife Lee Gahyeon had been spending it at a quaint boutique hotel, sightseeing and eating to your hearts' content. It was definitely the best way to spend your saved-up vacation time. You were glad that you'd gone through with it after debating the cost between yourselves for a while.
But though you'd been indulging in many fun activities, the reason for your trip was always in the back of your mind.
It was (or at least, you hoped it would be) the last vacation that you would take as a couple before your brand-new bundle of joy was added to the mix.
You had recently begun the IVF process with your wife. As the first go-around hadn't been a success, you decided that a quick getaway was in order once the second round began in order to relax a bit.
Still, the baby was all you could think about – that was, until Gahyeon got sick.
You'd gone to a new seafood restaurant for lunch, and though you'd told Gahyeon to play it safe with her meal choice by getting something thoroughly cooked, she was the one who contracted apparent food poisoning. You and your raw dish had been just fine (though watching Gahyeon upchuck her lunch did make your stomach turn).
You felt a little guilty, even though the situation was out of your control. After all, the purpose of the whole trip was so that Gahyeon could relax, and she didn't seem very relaxed any longer. Holding her hair back as she bent over the toilet wasn't exactly what you had in mind when you said that you wanted to spend time together.
"More water, please," Gahyeon whispered. You had set her up in bed after helping her rinse off in the shower. It seemed by then that she'd gotten everything out of her system.
You handed her the glass you'd filled and watched her cautiously take a sip.
"I'm sorry that we didn't get to go out on the boat today." Her voice was weak, and you'd have thought that it was due to being sick if her eyes hadn't welled up with tears as she spoke.
"Gah! Don't even think about apologizing," you admonished her. "We'll rearrange our schedule a little bit and do it tomorrow, no problem."
Well, that would have been the case, if only Gahyeon hadn't gotten sick after breakfast the following day, too.
Worried out of your mind, you put your foot down when she still felt nauseous by the afternoon. The last thing you wanted was for Gahyeon to get infected by anything when her body was in a vulnerable state.
In the waiting room of the hospital, you bounced your leg anxiously. As much as you were trying to act normal for Gahyeon's sake, you couldn't hide anything from her. She knew you too damn well.
"Relax," she muttered. She'd closed her eyes, propping her head up with one hand resting on the back of her chair. You realized that she must have been able to feel your leg against hers, so you apologized and took a deep breath. Luckily, she was the next patient.
She was feeling okay enough to stand up and walk on her own, but you still held onto her elbow tightly. The two of you were ushered into a room and you stared blankly at a wall while Gahyeon rattled off her medical history.
You finally snapped out of it when the nurse – Lee Dami, her nametag read – asked, clearly expecting a hard no, "Any chance you might be pregnant?"
Then your eyes slid to Gahyeon's.
She was already looking back at you.
"Oh..."
"Y-Yes. There's a chance," she responded. "I mean, I guess it's been enough t-time, right, babe?"
"Mhm..."
"We're doing IVF."
You sunk further into your chair as the nurse raised an eyebrow. "They didn't schedule you a blood test? How long has it been?"
"It's – it's for tomorrow. We're supposed to fly to Seoul in the morning, the appointment is in the afternoon. It's been over two weeks, but we'd already scheduled the trip, so they told us that it would be fine and they'd just run the test as soon as we got back..."
Nurse Lee clicked her tongue, scribbling something down before she continued quizzing Gahyeon. It was another minute before she left you alone, telling you on her way out that a doctor would be in shortly to run some tests.
You and Gahyeon didn't say a thing to each other for a little while. Then you both spoke at the same time.
"We're so dumb."
"I knew it was going to be bad timing."
A fit of nervous giggles ensued, leaving Gahyeon to pick anxiously at the paper covering on the examination bed when it ended. "I suppose...d'you think I could be getting morning sickness yet?"
After some quick mental calculations, you nodded. "Yeah, you definitely could. Definitely could," you repeated. Your leg was already beginning to bounce again, but Gahyeon didn't say anything. You didn't think that she even noticed. She was too lost in her own world, staring off into space.
When the doctor – who introduced herself as Kim Minji – came in, you noted the fact that Nurse Lee had sent an OB/GYN.
Expectedly, Dr. Kim told you that she was going to run some other tests, but that given the length of time since Gahyeon's latest embryo implant, that your wife was probably experiencing symptoms of pregnancy.
The bad news was that it was going to be a bit of a wait for the blood test results.
In reality, it was only about an hour. In your mind, it felt like a year. But when Dr. Kim returned with a wide smile, the wait didn't matter a bit. All it took was one little "Congratulations," and you and your wife were both crying.
You hadn't had a particularly tough time with IVF. In fact, you were well aware that you'd actually had a rather short and smooth journey. But regardless, the process was still a lot to go through, and you'd wanted a child for so long.
Gahyeon was holding out her arms to you for a hug, so you willed your shaky legs to stand and bring you into her embrace. You kissed her tenderly, your thumbs brushing away her tears.
"We did it," you whispered. Though your eyes were still closed, you could feel Gahyeon's lips spread into a smile against yours.
"We did."
Though she suspected that it was just morning sickness plaguing Gahyeon, the doctor still wanted to make sure all was well, so you had to wait around a little while longer as the rest of the tests were ran and cleared.
The whole time, all you and Gahyeon could do was grin giddily. You could hardly even speak, and when you did, it was just "I'm so excited," and "Me too."
As you had expected, the rest of the tests all came back negative; so you were cleared to leave, given copies of results for Gahyeon's regular doctor, and told that mother and baby should be perfectly healthy.
As the front doors parted for you to step back out into the Jeju sunshine, Gahyeon slipped her hand in yours, looking up at you with a beaming grin. "I guess this was our first family vacation, after all."
