Summary: The reader, Yoohyeon's best friend, struggles to hide her feelings when they meet.

Kim Yoohyeon grinned up at you, her coffee cup suspended in midair as she put a pause on taking a sip to speak. "You're magical, I swear to God."

You'd just told her about pulling off something that you shouldn't have been able to get away with, but you suddenly forgot what it was you'd said entirely. Your laugh faltered as your body froze, dumb smile still plastered on your face and all.

Sometimes, it was just a little too hard to take Yoohyeon's compliments the right way.

You were overwhelmingly aware in those moments of her coming-out. You called it that, at least; the famous quote that had clarified her feelings on whom she found attractive. Regardless of how one might classify the statement, it was clear enough that everyone knew Yoohyeon liked women.

But that didn't mean she liked you, which is what you always had to remind yourself.

You didn't want to ruin one of the only friendships you had outside of your band, especially knowing that it was the same for Yoohyeon. Becoming friends with other idols was something you knew to be hard for both of you, so aside from your members, it was safe to say that you were each other's closest friend.

There was no way you could do that to Yoohyeon – tell her that you were in love with her, that was.

So when you realized your own feelings, you adjusted yourself accordingly: dodging her flirting, avoiding physical contact, and spending less time together in person, when it was easy to slip up and say or do something that you didn't think through.

It was easy enough to brush off the last part with excuses of work, but it was suddenly clear to you that Yoohyeon was catching on. "Hello? You're spacing out. You okay? You seem like you've been a little...off lately."

"Oh, sorry!" You shook your head as though knocking yourself out of a daze. "Just tired...you know. It's crazy."

Yoohyeon hummed, but you could tell that she didn't buy it, even though you had just wrapped up promotions for your latest comeback. "You sure?" She leaned across the table, placing her hand over yours.

When you inhaled sharply, her grasp trembled and then disappeared. She retracted her hand slowly, looking at you in pained confusion. It was clear to her that she'd done something wrong, but didn't know why it was suddenly a problem.

"S-Sorry," she whispered. Her voice was so quiet that it was hardly perceptible. She cleared her throat and looked down at her lap.

"You're good," you choked out, giving Yoohyeon a fake smile. "It just surprised m—"

"No, what's really going on?"

"Uh..." You hadn't been expecting Yoohyeon to be so forward, as evidenced by the way that your jaw hung open. She kept talking while you collected yourself, to your great relief.

"I just want to know if I did something. I hope our friendship is strong enough that you would tell me..."

She looked so forlorn that you wanted to spit out your confession right then and there, but you just couldn't. Because not only did she not know, but nobody knew that you were queer. Coming out for the first time ever to your crush was not exactly the most ideal scenario.

Instead, you tried bluffing further. "No, no! Oh my God, no. Of course not. I'm sorry, really – just feeling a little out of it. These days with the..." You waved your hand in the air, hoping Yoohyeon would jump to a safe conclusion that you couldn't think of at the moment.
