Tap, tap, tap.
You can see Siyeon's shuffling feet under the dressing room door and feel her impatience right through it. "Alright," you announce. The lock clicks under your fingers to reveal her anticipatory gaze peering around the corner.
A grin overspreads her face the moment you lock eyes, and neither her pearly whites nor her chocolate orbs budge as you walk up to her. It's only when you're a foot away that she lets the gaze tumble over your body and twist her smile into a smirk. A moment later, it bounds back, having apparently drunk its share of your chest. Her every word is punctuated when she speaks, but especially the second one. "You're so gorgeous."
Caught a little off guard by the compliment – the first she's ever given to your appearance, at least openly – you splutter back, "You are," but she isn't listening. Her hands would like to replace her eyes' hold on your waist, thank you very much.
"So, will you wear this to dinner?"
You just blink at her.
As though reading your mind, Siyeon continues, "You know, the dinner we'll have at a really small and empty restaurant at which you're just my really close best friend?"
That draws a chuckle from your throat. "Yeah, sure. Alright. Sure."
Siyeon's smile seems to sparkle as brightly as it does on stage. She reaches around your waist, and the tag is unfastened before the shiver that runs down your spine dissipates. "Grab your clothes. I'm gonna pay for it."
"Yeah. Okay." Your feet forget how to move when her hair whirls on her shoulders, however. Your eyes are transfixed on her hips, your mind on the feeling of holding them close.
"Hurry, I'm calling the Uber." She winks at the flush that swathes your skin as you scurry for your T-shirt and jeans.
You and your stuffed tote bag meet her at the register just as she's handed the receipt. "Ready?" she asks, giving the cashier a nod of thanks. Then she turns to you.
Her breath hitches as her eyes soar down your body again. "Wow, amazing." She shakes her head a little and gives your back a push with her free hand. "Let's go."
The car's already waiting next to the sidewalk by the time your shaky legs make it there. Siyeon attributes that to your long dress and helps you lift it graciously. "Is it too hard to walk in?"
"If you'd stop making me flustered, it wouldn't be."
Siyeon's laughter is louder than the slam of the car door, which is saying something. "Sorry," she says, not sounding sorry at all. "My bad."
The last two words are murmured an inch from your face. You'd like to give her a firm look for that risky move in front of the taxi driver, but your eyes have gone crossed to focus on her plump lips. Instead, you give her shoulder a good shove, and she collapses in giggles against the headrest.
Her eyes are the most beautiful you've ever seen. Big and brown and sparkly. You already knew that.
Right now, however, not only is she looking back at you, but your reflection is too, right in her blown-out pupils. Like you're the only thing she sees – because you are.
And you know: this is where you belong.
Your expression must look quite funny, because her brown eyes become starry crescents as she takes it in. She squeaks, nearly, the giggle is so high; but then it's repeated so you know it's a laugh. "I'm so shy," she whines.
