excerpt from "1 | in my world that has lost its light"

"I'll get it," you called as you practically raced to the entrance, pausing to straighten out your outfit and hair before you pulled open the door.

The biggest brown eyes that you had ever seen in your life met yours instantly, and you suddenly found it hard to breathe. The woman's chocolate orbs were sparkling in the light from the pendant lamp that illuminated the staircase on which she was standing, enchanting you immediately.

Only when you were able to tear your gaze away from her own did you realize that her full peach lips had parted slightly upon looking up at you, making them look all the more voluptuous as they showed off just a hint of her strikingly white teeth.

Finally, your eyes dropped low enough to register her pale blue suit that clothed her milky skin and contrasted beautifully her inky hair that framed her face in a hime cut. You swallowed hard as your gaze traveled back to meet hers. The woman was stunning, to say the least, and you had no idea how you were going to be able to speak at all – let alone speak professionally – to her, but you had to try.

"Are you Monica?" you eventually managed to ask, opening the door a little wider. "Come in."

"Yes, thank you," Monica replied, climbing the last stair and stepping inside with considerable confidence. Her eyes slid up and down your body as she listened to you introduce yourself, and her action triggered something in your brain that made you blurt out the question that you had debated asking in a rather rushed panic.

"By any chance, do you speak Korean?"

"Oh – yes," Monica responded, clearly surprised. "Your pronunciation is very good," she added, scurrying to match your pace as you led her to the largest office at the back of the building. You were grateful for the compliment, but to be honest, you were just glad that you were remembering your formalities.

You just sent her a sideways glance and a smile. "Thank you."

"You aren't Korean, though?"

You chuckled at her rhetorical question, shaking your head negatively as you gave her the answer to her true query. "I like Korean music."

"Ah," Monica nodded in understanding, grinning at you. "Me too." She hesitated a moment before adding, "You can call me Siyeon, if you like."
