This Time

Chapter twenty three

I arrived at the university, everything and everyone looks so foreign. I went straight to the reception to ask for my dorm room and my timetable.

"Dan honey can you show miss Atkins to room 302?" The receptionist said to the boy who was stacking some files. "And show her around too please?" She added with a British accent.

Dan looked up, he was wearing a pair black framed glasses, hoodies and a pair of dark jeans. "Erm yeah sure"

"Let me hold your bags" he offered. "They look heavy"

He had a really thick British accent.

"Thank you" I said "my names Lea" I added.

"I'm Dan. So you're new huh?"

"Yeah. I'm an international student"

"Hahahah yeah I know."

"How?" I questioned.

"From your accent"

"I don't have an accent, you do"

He laughed. Then I realized that I'm in England and I'm the foreign one here.

We reached my dorm room and I went inside. It was a small room with two single beds. There were two small desks and a bathroom. One side of the wall was covered with posters and photos and the other side was plain.

"Your roommate is uh Kendra Hicks" Dan read from a piece of paper.

"Do you know her?" I asked.

"Erm..not really. I think she's part of the tennis club."

"Oh okay"

"So, are you ready to tour the campus?"

"Um no, I'm actually really tired right now so I think I'm gonna take a nap first"

He nodded. He took out a piece of paper and a pen and wrote something on it.

"Here's my number so yeah I guess you can call me when you're ready?"

"Thanks, I will"

"Rest well" And he left.

I unpacked my stuffs and went straight to sleep cause I was super tired. When I woke up, a girl with red hair was sitting on the other bed humming a song with headphones on. I stood up and went over to introduce myself. She immediately took her headphones out and smiled.

"Hi, I'm Kendra. You must be Lea" and she held out her hand.

I shook it "yes I am"

"Oh you're American"

"Yup"

"Are you a freshman?"

"Yeah. And you?"

"I'm graduating next year. What courses are you taking?"

"I'm taking development and earth science"

"I'm studying business"

"What time is it?" I asked.

Kendra pointed to the wall clock. It was 6pm. Holy shit, I slept 6 hours straight. And then I suddenly remembered Dan. I took out the crumbled paper from my jean pocket and texted the number.

[ Lea: hey Dan! It's me Lea. I just woke up now so I think we can tour tomorrow instead??] I sent the text and a few seconds later, he replied.

[ Dan: ok. I'll come by your room at about 11? If that's okay]

[ Lea: that's great! See you tomorrow]

"Do you wanna go and get some dinner?" Kendra spoke up.

"Yes please I'm starving."

"Come on let's go"

Kendra drove us to Pizza Hut and we ordered a small pizza.

We chatted while waiting for it and then a familiar voice called me.

"Hey Lea"

"Dan. Hey. Wanna join?" I said.

"Uh no thank you, I'm actually here with my friends and I just thought I'd say

hey" he turned to Kendra and gave her a nod, she returned it.

"Oh that's nice"

And the waitress bought our pizza.

"Yep, I'm gonna go now. Enjoy your meals" he turned around and then looked back "and I'll see you tomorrow" and i waved.

"So you've met Dan already" Kendra said.

"Yeah, he's really sweet"

"He's really nice and helpful and he's a swimmer too. All the teachers and staffs love him. Major hottie" she told me.

"That's uh nice.."

"Do you have a boyfriend?" She asked.

"Nope" I said and took a bite of my pizza. "What about you?"

"I do. His name's Matthew. His graduating this year. My parents don't like him, just because he's black. He's not black, he's actually brown you know. My parents are so narrow minded. It's so annoying"

"That was a lot of information"

Kendra laughed "I'm a very chatty person. Sorry"

"It's okay. I like chatty people." I smiled at her.

After dinner Kendra said that she's meeting Matthew at the pub and asked if I wanted to join but I said no. She offered to drive me back to the campus but I told her I could catch the bus, she told me which bus to take and gave me directions to the bus stop. While I was walking to the bus stop, I could hear someone's footsteps lurking behind me. I walked faster. And the footsteps increased its speed too. I looked back and saw that it was only Dan and let out a breath.

"Oh my god Dan, you scared me!"

He started laughing "I'm sorry. I just didn't know how to approach you without being creepy. So...um...where are you heading to?"

"Ahh I'm just going to the bus stop to catch a bus back to the campus. You?"

"Me too"

We walked to the bus stop and caught the bus together back. We chatted a bit and he told me that he was majoring in science. He walked me back to my room which was a very nice thing for him to do because his room was on the other side of the campus. We said our good nights and I went in to my room. I guess my first day here wasn't so bad.
