2014
Apparently, when you confront the head of Peds, the whole hospital finds out about it in record time. By the time Luke and I went back to work, it seemed even more people were avoiding me and looking at me disgustingly. It made me almost miss the pity looks I was getting.
Now it had been a few weeks and I was over it all. I showed up, I did my job and I didn't complain. I was only really nice to Luke and the other residents when they weren't shooting me dirty looks of their own. So Luke and Ben mainly.
Luke noticed my mood and wrapped an arm around my shoulder as we walked to the resident's locker room
"Don't let them get you down Tay, you're better than them and better than that" I smiled.
"Thanks, Luke. Probably should get used to the idea that no one is going to let me scrub in any time soon though"
"You never know, today could be the day"
"I'm on Peds, doubt it" He made a face.
"Yeah, maybe not then" I rolled my eyes.
"I thought you were supposed to be supportive!" He shrugged.
"I am. But you did kind of demand that Doctor Robbins treat you like a doctor the other week, I can't disagree with the facts" I shoved him playfully as we got changed into our scrubs.
"Wish me luck"
"Don't kill any kids"
"You're an ass"
"You love me"
I made my way up to Peds, Doctor Robbins looking at me and her face falling slightly. I rolled my eyes. I'd stopped being nice about the same time I realized I wasn't that wanted by these people after all. Now they all thought I had an attitude issue. Granted it was an issue they'd planted in me, but I had the problem, not them. According to them all.
"Look, I know no one wants me on their service and I'm a bitch on the best of days. But I am a good doctor, Robbins. Let me prove it at least" She went to reprimand me but closed her mouth and nodded. I sighed in relief, not really wanting an attitude lecture today of all days.
"Okay we're rounding, first patient is a fourteen-year-old girl who has just been diagnosed with cancer. She's awaiting a liver transplant and the liver is coming from her older sister who is a match and is flying into Seattle later today, surgery will be tomorrow morning" I nodded. This felt a little too close to home but I was determined not to let it get me down. I was going to be strong and I was going to handle this. I followed Arizona into the room where the fourteen-year-old named Piper in the bed groaned as soon as she saw me.
Great, someone else who didn't appear to like me for god knows what reason. Arizona smiled anyway.
"Hi Piper, how are you feeling today?"
"You had to bring me a doctor with perfect hair didn't you?" I blushed a little and Arizona looked lost for a split second before realizing once this girl starts chemo, her hair is all going to fall out. She recovered well and looked to Piper and who I can only assume is her mom.
"This is Doctor Dawson, she's one of our surgical residents and she's kind of new here so we're taking turns showing her how Grey Sloan Memorial does things" She lied. I smiled, rolling my eyes on the inside. What a load of crap that was.
"It's nice to meet you Piper" I said. The girl glared at me.
"I don't know if she told you but I have cancer. So I don't really like having you in here with your perfectly kept roots and curls. What do you get, a touch-up every four weeks?" I smiled, not shaken by her comments.
