"You talked to him about it?" I was fuming. Steph was confused as to why.
"Yeah? I was stuck on his service because Ben got roped into surgery with Teddy. Calm down, I didn't say anything bad!"
"I can't believe this" I muttered, taking my head in my hands.
"Hey, he kind of asked for my advice"
"Why would he do that?" Steph shrugged.
"He told me that you mentioned our conversation yesterday at lunch and that you didn't drag me into the dirt. So I appreciated that and he felt the need to ask me for advice."
"What kind of advice?" I implored. She sighed.
"He wanted to know how you felt about it all"
"Huh?" She rolled her eyes.
"He wanted to know how you felt about dating someone else after Luke passed"
"He did?" Steph nodded.
"I guess he's not as much of an idiot as I once made him out to be, huh?" We both chuckled.
"No, I still think he's an idiot" I said.
"An idiot maybe, but you're letting him take you on a date" I rolled my eyes at her.
"One date, that's all"
"You say that now"
"Believe me, I'm not going to let it be more"
"So you don't like him like that?"
"Why is the answer I don't know not good enough for you guys?" Steph shrugged.
"Because you already know I don't believe you, and neither does Jo"
"It's the truth, sorry Steph."
"Okay, maybe you don't have a clear yes, but you also don't have a clear no, right?" I nodded. "Well my advice is to keep pushing until you do"
"Keep pushing until I realize it's wrong?" Steph shrugged.
"Or right. I think you owe yourself that much. When is the big date?" I quickly and frantically searched around for anyone who might be listening.
"Would you shh! He wants it to be tonight but I don't know if he's already made reservations or if he's planning on trying to get in somewhere" Steph rolled her eyes.
"Okay, first of all, no one's around so you're safe. Second, Jackson knows what he wants and if he wants tonight then you'd better believe there are at least five reservations made at different places, depending on what you feel like" I groaned.
"That seems a bit extravagant, don't you think?" Steph shrugged.
"Jackson Avery is not a simple man" I chuckled.
"Don't I know it? Fine, I'll go on this date tonight. But I won't be sharing all the details with you and Jo tomorrow!" Steph smirked.
"I don't think you're going to be able to stop yourself" I rolled my eyes and we went our separate ways, back to our practices.
"What's with the face?" April asked me when I entered the ER.
"What face?"
"That one, the suspicious one that tells me you're up to something" She teased. I chuckled and shook my head.
"Not up to anything, swear" I lied.
I mean, April was not the person to be gushing to or complaining to about a date with Jackson Avery. I knew exactly how she'd react too, give or take. She'd either get all weird and stumble through the rest of the day because it would linger on her mind. Or she'd fully take it out on me and punish me with scut duties and no surgeries, even though I was now given permission to be back in an OR and was probably needing to make up some serious hours I'd missed in the last six months.
