2010

Honestly, at this point, Seattle Grace Mercy West should just engrave my name on the door of a room and leave it at that for whenever I'm here.

I've been in and out of this hospital that many bloody times at this point. I was here when it was just Seattle Grace. But now this was the first time since they'd merged with Mercy West. Which meant there were new doctors to get to know. Lucky me.

"Taylor Dawson, it's good to see you" Doctor Bailey greeted me, followed by a group of residents. I knew they were residents because although I didn't know three of them, one was Alex Karev.

"Doctor Percy, you'll be presenting. Although I highly recommend not messing this one up. She's a very important patient in this place" I smiled.

"You're too kind to me Bailey"

The tall one cleared his throat. The other two were a short girl with short hair like mine, although I can guarantee hers wasn't because of chemo, and a guy with olive skin and the brightest eyes I'd ever seen.

"Taylor Dawson, twenty-three. Diagnosed with cancer at age seventeen and has a repeating history with the surgical department here" Doctor Bailey shot him a glare and I chuckled.

"Relax, he's kind of right" I assured her and she nodded.

"And what is she in for today?"

"A valve replacement. The one previously put in has deteriorated too much and needs to be replaced" The short girl answered.

"Yeah, a valve put in in this hospital" The tall one muttered, all three of the Mercy West doctors chuckling. Alex looked at me and I shook my head subtly. I knew his time would come when he'd be able to put these guys in their place in regard to my medical history.

"So what happens next?" Doctor Bailey asked. Alex purposefully kept his mouth shut, catching on to what I was doing. He smirked at me.

"Well we've checked her latest EEG and double-checked her vitals so next would be getting Doctor Altman to schedule the surgery, prep her and take her into the OR" The tall one said, Doctor Percy.

"Wrong" I said simply. He cocked his head and looked at me.

"What do you mean wrong?"

"I mean wrong" I reiterated.

"We have the EEG results, Doctor Altman doesn't need any more scans to know that you need this valve replaced and soon" The short girl said. I could read her ID from where I was. Doctor Reed Adamson.

"Perhaps you would care to explain the benefits of understanding a patient's history, Doctor Karev?" I asked Alex. Bailey seemed to catch onto what I was doing and I watched her fold her arms and smirk to herself. Alex nodded with a smile.

"I'd love to. Taylor isn't ever cleared for surgery as soon as she needs it in this place. She needs to pass a respiratory test to ensure her lungs are up to the job of keeping her alive if she needs to be put on bypass. If you looked at her notes, sure you wouldn't see that written. But you would notice that in 2005 she underwent a lung transplant and this is the protocol for all surgical patients post-lung transplant. Whether the surgery is on her heart or her little toe, she needs to pass this test before we give her surgery" He explained. The other three looked gobsmacked.

"Alright Karev, you get the girl ready for that test and if she passes I expect you'll let Altman know and get her into surgery" Alex nodded as the other three residents began to walk out. I couldn't resist though.
