2015

"So am I able to take you to dinner tonight?" Luke asked while I read a book on the couch. It was the afternoon now and lazing around the apartment all day was too good of an opportunity to miss so I was taking full advantage.

"I have to work tonight"

"No, you don't" I rolled my eyes.

"Yes, Luke I do. I'm meant to be on-call Sunday and Monday nights following chemo"

"But you reacted to the chemo badly on Friday and worked all day yesterday, including twelve hours in the field and then another four in surgery"

"I'm fine Luke"

"I didn't say you weren't, I'm saying you don't owe Grey Sloan anything" I shrugged.

"Actually, I kind of owe them everything"

"No, you owe Seattle Grace everything. You don't have to go in"

"No other resident will take my place. Let's plan it for Tuesday night" Luke groaned dramatically and slid off the couch so he was laying on the floor. "You're stupid!" He sat up and looked at me.

"You take that back" I grinned.

"Never"

"Fine, Tuesday night?" I nodded.

"Assuming April isn't making me run her ER" Luke snorted.

"Please, it's your ER if anything, what with all the time she's having off lately."

"She's going through a tough time" Luke sighed.

"I know. I just feel like she's using you because you know how to run it"

"She is, but it's not shallow"

"You always see the best in people, it's annoying" I grinned.

"Too bad I only see the worst in you. Why'd I agree to this date?" Luke shrugged.

"No clue, but it's too late now. You're not getting out of it" I chuckled.

"Figures. Where are we going?" Luke shrugged.

"I'm not gonna tell you"

"Why not?"

"Because then it wouldn't be a surprise and I plan on surprising the heck out of you"

"You've done nothing but for the last six months" Luke grinned.

"Good, I plan on continuing"

"What about Steph?"

"What about her?" I rolled my eyes.

"Okay you were literally into her on Friday and now it's Sunday and you're taking me on a date!" Luke shrugged yet again.

"So? I was into her and she was into me. I'm allowed to take you on a date. It's not like Steph and I were dating or anything. Plus I talked to her yesterday and realized we really were only attracted to each other on the surface. Deep down, it would have never worked"

"And how can you be so sure?"

"Because I can't stand the way she organizes patient files" I laughed.

"Luke, that's not a reason not to date someone"

"Yeah, but I also couldn't stand the way she kept going on about Avery and how much of a dick he is. I might not like him all that much, but I should get to decide what I think of him, not let her dictate it"

"That's actually really mature of you Gallagher"

"And she said she didn't want to date me if I was still living with you" I groaned.
