2015

I walked into the gallery and shook Luke's shoulder gently. His eyes flicked open in confusion as he sat up and saw me. He relaxed and smiled.

"Oh it's just you"

"Why are you sleeping in here?" He shrugged.

"Kepner told me you got pulled in for surgery and I didn't want to go home without you, not after the hectic day today was" I held my hand out for him with a smile of my own.

"No kidding, sorry I wasn't planning on being roped in for surgery but I was literally the first resident Jackson ran into" Luke accepted my hand up and shrugged.

"Yeah, I know. I don't resent you like other people around here do"

"Which is why you're my favorite resident" He chuckled.

"That's not really hard though, is it?" I shook my head with a chuckle of my own.

"Not really. Home?"

"Please"

Luke linked his arm through mine as we made our way out of the hospital. He was almost dragging me to his car seeing as I was so tired.

"Come on, you need sleep and badly." I nodded.

"So do you"

"Eh, I had a good nap in the gallery"

"It was a cool surgery, I'm surprised you even closed your eyes"

"Well Jackson Avery isn't exactly high on my list of doctors to learn from here. I mainly wanted to keep an eye on you and hope like hell you saw me there"

"He's not a bad guy Luke. I know you heard all about what he did to Steph, but he's not a bad person because of that" Luke sighed and started his car after we'd climbed in.

"God, when did we turn into those people?" I cocked my head at him.

"What people?"

"The people who argue about stupid things all the time" I sighed too and rested my head back in my seat.

"Let's not be them"

"Easier to say than do"

"I know, but we can do it. A good start would be not talking about Steph or Jackson, seeing as we both have different opinions on each of them" Luke nodded.

"Good idea. The next step is letting me take you on a date" I have never turned my head so fast, but Luke kept looking at the road as he drove.

"Excuse me?"

"You heard"

"I did, but I'm not sure I understood"

"I'm going to take you on a date, Taylor, a real date"

"We can't"

"Why not?" I rolled my eyes.

"We work together and live together. If it doesn't work out, it's going to make things awkward between us"

"Since when have we ever had an awkward moment?"

"Since you just told me you want to take me on a date" Luke shrugged, still focusing on the road.

"Come on, I like you and you like me. Forget everything that's happened this week and let me take you out to dinner" As good as I was at fighting for what I wanted, I knew Luke was good too. And I knew he wouldn't let this go so I sighed.

"When?"

"You're gonna give in that easily?"

"Well, I know you're not gonna back down that easily. This friendship doesn't work when we're both being stubborn" He chuckled.
