*TW - death*

"So it's Kepner's last day today?" I nodded as Luke and I walked into the hospital hand in hand.

"Yup. Jackson and I take over the ER as of tomorrow"

"Are you nervous?" I chuckled.

"Are you kidding?"

"Sorry, dumb question"

"What if I do an awful job?"

"Tay, I've seen the way you and Avery run that place. There's no way in hell" I smiled and pressed a kiss to his cheek.

"I love you" He smirked and kissed me on the lips.

"Love you too" We made our way into the locker room and Luke's hand flew to his head. "Oh crap!"

"What? What is it?" I asked.

"I forgot that research I was writing up for Bailey!"

"Hey, it's okay. Just go home on your lunch break and get it. There are leftovers in the fridge you can have for lunch if you want to eat there" He sighed and kissed me on the lips again.

"God, how do you keep me so grounded?"

"Trauma brain" I teased, 'trauma brain' being what we called my inability to separate work and life. It wasn't really a thing until I started trying to triage and diagnose our relationship. Turns out the issue was me working too hard. So I took a step back and focused more on being with Luke when we were at home and it changed things immensely.

"Well, I don't mind it as much when you're giving good advice rather than convincing yourself to break up with me"

"I'd never" He grinned.

"You'd better not. I'll tell Bailey I'm still working on it and she'll have it after lunch."

"Atta boy, I'd better get to the ER. Hopefully no major car crashes come in, I'm still a bit lethargic" Luke pouted, knowing I had a chemo treatment this weekend and it was only Sunday. Which also meant I was on call tonight and tomorrow night.

"Take it easy. At least you still have Kepner in there today" I nodded and hurried out the door to the ER, just hearing Luke yell out "I love you!"

"I love you too!" I called back, hurrying to the ER to meet Doctor Kepner and Doctor Avery.

"Be on your toes today Dawson, you and I are running this thing" Jackson said to me as soon as I got there.

"Oh, okay" I agreed. April rolled her eyes.

"I haven't left yet, I'm not completely useless Jackson"

"Not completely useless, that's why you're going to Afghanistan for three months"

"I'm leaving Harriet with you for three months, you've been begging for this since we got the damn divorce"

"April-"

"Just, don't Jackson. Let's just get through today" Jackson nodded and walked away as April turned to me with a sigh.

"I'm sad you're leaving me with him" I offered. She laughed and pulled me into a hug.

"I'm sad I'm leaving you with him. If you were through your boards, I'd have just left it with you completely but the books say I can't do that"

"We'll try not to trash the place" April grinned and put a hand on my shoulder.

"Are you feeling okay?" I shrugged.

"I had chemo on Friday. It always takes me different amounts of time to bounce back, this one is particularly bad. Thank god you're still here"
