Aya mouth agape slightly after hearing Raava's story. All this time she thought that she was a spirit, then a human, but in actuality, she's both. Questions filled her mind, but the only one remained was if her father is still alive. But that'll have to wait, she then smiles at Raava, "Thank you for telling me."
"So, if you're not a spirit, and you're not human, then what are you?" Wan asked.
"Aya is a hybrid. A cross between a human and a spirit." Raava answered.
Aya turned to Wan with her hand outstretched, "Wan, you ready to learn air?"
Wan looks down at her hand, his confused look switched to a determined smile and wrapped his hand around hers, "I'm ready. Give me the air."
Raava glided in the air and rushed inside Wan, the out through Aya. Aya felt the rush of power swirling withing herself, as though she'd never felt before. After he regains his composure, Wan sends out a burst of air first.
"It feels completely different." Wan said.
Aya followed sending a slice of air, "You're right, it's way calmer than water."
"If you and Vaatu have the same fight every ten thousand years, why hasn't one of you destroyed the other?" Wan asks Raava while the both continue to practice the art of air.
"He cannot destroy light any more than I can destroy darkness. One cannot exist without the other. Even if I defeat Vaatu in this encounter, darkness will grow inside me until he emerges again. The same will hold true if Vaatu defeats me."
"That doesn't sound so bad. Even if Vaatu wins, you'll come back."
"That is true, but we wouldn't survive. Who knows what the world would be under Vaatu's control." Aya spoke.
Wan lowers his head thinking, then raises his head to Raava, "If we're gonna help you battle Vaatu, then I should visit more lion turtles."
As they continued on their journey, Aya asked more about Akemi, her mother. Where did she come from, and did she had a family? Raava explained that the spirits come from another realm. At the north and south poles, the two realms intersect. Over time, more and more spirits have drifted into this world.
One day as Aya was in the middle of teaching Wan earthbending, the stench of smoke filled the air. "Smells like smoke." Wan spoke.
"Humans are nearby." Raava responded.
"Let's check it out." The three follow the smell until they came to humans burning down a forest for wood.
"A spirit!" one of the settlers shouted, hurdling a fire ball after Raava.
Wan jumps in front, deflecting the fire, "Easy there, fellas. We're friendly."
"I can't believe it. Wan?" said one of the settlers.
"Jaya!" Wan walked over towards him, and gives him a bear hug, "What are you doing out here?" he asked as they released each other.
Jaya laughs, "You inspired us. Once we heard that you survived out in the wilds, we decided to try it too."
"Where's Yao? Did he come with you?"
"Yes, but sadly he didn't make it. We ... we lost a lot of good men along the way. So, who's your girlfriend?"
Wan and Aya gasped upon hearing that and shouted, "He's not my boyfriend! [She's not my girlfriend!]"
Jaya smirked, folding his arms, "Okay, so why were you protecting this spirit?"
"This is Raava. Don't worry. She's not like the dark spirits you've probably run into."
"Dark spirits? What's the difference? We throw fire at any spirit we see around here. Just like they attack any man."
