We stood on the dock one cloudy morning, awaiting the arrival of Mako, Bolin, and Asami. We waved at the boat once the ferry stopped, and Mako's eyes met mine. I froze, cleared my throat, and turned to Bolin.
"You're finally here!" Ikki exclaimed excitedly as an air acolyte threw the anchor in the water while two others let down the ramp to allow the passengers to get off the boat, "Welcooome to Air Temple Island. Your new home."
"Yes, welcome to my domain." Meelo pointed to himself.
Bolin smiled, "Well, aren't you sweet, little monk child."
Pabu jumps down from Bolin's shoulder and runs in between Meelo's legs before running to the right. Meelo bends over and looks through his legs at Pabu, "What's that fuzzy creature?" he asks, pointing.
"That is a fire ferret." Jinora informed, "An arboreal mammal common to the bamboo forests of the central Earth Kingdom."
Ikki jumped in between them and gasped in delight, "He's cuuuute!!" she squeals.
Jinora plugs her ears to silence Ikki's shrieks. Meelo then airbends onto Naga's head, grabbing and pulling the polar bear dog's ears backward, "Yip yip! Fly sky, bison! Fly!"
I sighed, pinching the bridge of my brow, "Meelo, Naga is not a sky bison." I said taking him down the polar bear dog.
"Thanks for sending the Air Acolytes to help us with the move," Mako said, approaching us.
"Yes, they've been amazing." Asami said, agreeing with Mako, "Such tireless workers."
Korra and I watched as two Air acolytes struggled to carry several trunks of luggage off the boat.
"Oh, I thought you were only bringing a few things." Korra reacts slightly by shrieking that word, but luckily the Air Acolytes manage to balance themselves in time.
"Trust me; it could've been worse." Mako responded.
"No problem; everyone here wants you guys to feel welcome." Korra smiled.
Our group strolls behind the Airbender children and walks toward the temple. Ikki runs around with her hands outstretched as she sings and hums gleefully. Asami looks down at Meelo with confusion as he grins at her.
"You're pretty. Can I have some of your hair?" Meelo asked, holding out his hand.
"Looks like I have some competition," Mako says to Asami. I giggled as we continued.
Ikki ran in front of the group with her arms out, "And now for the grand tour. The flying bison sleep in those caves down there. And that's the temple Grandpa Aang built. And that's the greenhouse where we grow the vegetables we eat." she quickly spoke pointing to each location and finishing with a big smile.
"I have a couple of questions." Bolin said, "Is this an all-vegetarian island? Is that where you train airbending? Do we have to wear Air Acolyte clothes? Do we each get our own sky bison? And final question, how many trees are on this island?"
Ikki thought about it for a moment and responded, "Yes. Yes. No. No. Ten thousand five hundred and fifty-two." There was a long pause from the others as they blinked at Ikki in surprise.
"That's Ikki for ya!" I chuckled sheepishly.
"So, where are we going to be staying?" Mako asked.
"You're a boy. Boys have to stay on the boys' side." Meelo said, pointing in the opposite direction.
"I'd be happy to show you to the men's dormitory." Jinora offered.
"I'm a boy!" Bolin said, following Mako and Jinora.
