Zenji's POV

It seemed to be any normal day in the air temple. However, I never thought literal terrorists would come here. I could feel Mai-Li cling onto me, she was shaking from the horror that had transpired. I couldn't blame her, since I was a bit scared myself, but I had to keep her safe. I promised her mother that I would. Mom, Aunt Haruka, and Uncle Hayato stood beside me while guarding the other airbenders. Then in comes Tenzin and his family who were led by those same thugs that tried to take Korra. In walked their leader, "It's a pleasure to finally meet a true airbending master."

Tenzin narrowed his eyes, "What is it you want from us?"

"Nothing at all. In fact, if everyone cooperates, you will all walk out of this situation unharmed." Zaheer answered, looking at all the airbenders before him. My lip curled in disgust, knowing it was a lie.

"Then what are you doing here?" Tenzin asked.

"I want Korra, and I'm tired of chasing her." Zaheer replied.

"You're using us as leverage."

Zaheer nodded, "I will never let you get to Korra." Tenzin said sternly, rising to his feet.

"Unfortunately, you don't have a choice."

"Yes I do." Tenzin said, before sending a huge blast of wind launching the thugs back of the room. "Jinora, Zenji, and Haruka! Get everyone out of here. Bumi, Kya, help me hold them off!" Just then, I heard a familiar sound before the ground exploded in front of Tenzin, "And stay out of her line of sight! Go, go!"

I glanced at my mother, "It'll be alright, I promise." she said with a warm smile.

I wanted to protest, but held my tongue and took Mai-Li by the arm and lead her away. We rushed through the tunnels that led to the stables where the air bison reside. We were about to make it, when the blasts caused us to retreat back in the tunnels.

"It's too dangerous. We'll never make it to the stables with her up there." Pema said, as she held onto Rohan.

"Well, we can't just sit by while sparky sparky boom girl is up there." I spoke up.

Suddenly, another barrage of explosions rocked the tunnels, causing us to step further into the tunnels. Rohan began to grow fussy causing Pema to shield his ears while calming him down.

"I can't wait any longer." Kai says growing impatient, grabbing his staff.

"Wait, what are you doing?" Jinora asks.

"Whatever I can." Kai answered, running out, "Get to the bison! Get out of here!"

"Hey wait!" Aunt Haruka spoke, but it was too late. Not long, beams rained down following Kai's trail as he ran towards the edge of the cliff. He jumped off the edge, extending his glider and flew off into the sky. The combustion bender notices the airbenders slowly crossing the bridge. However, Kai flew in front of her and sent a gust of wind. The next thing that I knew there was a loud explosion, I turned my head, seeing Kai falling from the sky.

"Kai! No!" Jinora cried, tears falling down her face.

"He...didn't make it." Haruka said in horror.

Before there was any time to think, I found myself leaving Mai-Li's side and running through the the bridge and leaping off. Punching a blast of wind I manage to get close to Kai. I held out my hand and manage to grab hold onto Kai. Then this surge of power swelled within my body,  and before long the last thing I heard was Mai-Li's voice screaming my name.

Yukari's POV

We hurriedly made our way to the Northern Air Temple, everyone was gathered at the main deck surrounding a large map that was laid flat on the table discussing plans to attack. I was in the back watching as clouds darkened the sky.
