Scarlett

I was sitting on the couch alone, which is very hard to accomplish in this hectic household, watching the new season of my favorite show.

Suddenly, about 2 and a half episodes in, my luck ran out; my peace was interrupted.

"Hello my favorite sister," Zach chirped, sitting next to me.

"I'm your only sister, idiot," I replied, shoving him further from me.

"I love you too, Scar," he spoke, rolling his eyes jokingly.

"What do you want?" I cut to the chase, knowing there ought to be a catch to him speaking to me ever so sweetly.

"What do I want?" he repeated, placing his hand over his heart in an offended, joking manner, "I want to catch up with my sister!"

He squeezed me into a little side hug and this time I swatted his arms.

"You're worrying me," I said.

"I literally am just bored, Scarlett," he reassured, "you need to try to find your zen."

I rolled my eyes before motioning towards the television with my remote. "You can watch with me, I guess."

He shrugged in agreement as I unpaused my show.

Zach

About ten minutes into this stupid romance show Scarlett seemed obsessed with, I decided to break the silence.

"So, how's Cam and Ella coming along?" I said, hoping not to sound as interested as I was. God, pull yourself together man.

Scarlett immediately gave me a rather questionable look.

"Good?" she said sort of as a question, making me realize her skepticism.

"I'm just trying to start conversation," I explained, "this show couldn't be more boring."

"Well, I mean, if anything it's just the beginning, so I'm not so sure myself," she replied, sounding honest.

"How about you? How's your love life?" she added, smirking and catching me a bit off guard.

"It's wonderful," I answered, "you know, with the girl-magnet I am." I gave a little flex and kissed my bicep.

"You're so weird," she spoke, turning to lay down on her side and curling up with a pillow.

Her response wasn't enough for me, the one about Ella, but I couldn't bother her more about it; she would catch onto me.

"Cam is a player, you know," I touched back on the conversation, getting more comfortable myself as I placed my right arm behind my head. Oops.

"Zach, why are you asking me so much about Cam and Ella," she reflected, "aren't you two friends?"

Shit. Shit. Shit. Abort Mission.

I need to change the topic.

"Yes, we're friends," I said, trying to think of a new subject, "I'm literally just curious about gossip."

Okay, girls and gossip get along like peanut butter and jelly, but I need something better.

Then it hit me.

"Hey, I saw you talking to Josh in the cafeteria yesterday," I began, trying my best to contain my smirk, "what was that all about?"

Immediately her eyes widened and she shifted a bit in her position. What was that about?

"Yeah, he's cool," she muttered, attempting to sound chill.

"Don't get any ideas, Scarlett," I warned, "he's one of my best friends."

"Zach, suddenly everyone is your best friend whenever I mention a guy," she whined, throwing her right arm up, the one she wasn't laying on, in disbelief.

"Every guy you mention is a dick, Scarlett!" I lectured, growing more irritated.

"Okay, I don't feel like arguing right now," she stated, "I'm not trying anything with Josh."

I must have been giving off an unconvinced look, which I was to be fair, because she continued.

"I just want to be friends, Zach. Seriously."

"I believe you," I sighed, untensing my shoulders. She gave me a weak smile, before sitting up.

"I'm tired, goodnight," Scarlett spoke, patting my shoulder as she walked past me.

"Night, Scar," I said, sighing to myself.

I could tell I irritated her, but I couldn't understand why she looked a bit sad. I sat there for a moment, the conversation repeating in my head.

Scarlett

I walked up the steps, passing Clay on the way up. We exchange a quick acknowledgement before I made it to my room.

I got in and immediately face planted, belly down, onto my bed.

Why must my brothers hate every guy for me or be friends with them?

Okay, honestly, I feel like I may start liking Josh. He's tall, has curly brown hair, and athletic. He also pays me a lot of attention and has a wonderful sense of humor.

I think I'm developing a crush on Josh Williams.
