Scarlett
The aftermath of the color war was a very slow, drama-free week. We were all genuinely happy to just hang out, and no one took interest in biting each other's heads off.
The day after I woke up late and wandered through the house, quietly curious as to what everyone was up to. Corey and Brandon were playing basketball outside, and after listening in on a few minutes, I found that they weren't even keeping score.
In another room, Gabe and Zach sat on the couch watching Victorious in the living room. They were singing "Take a Hint"—Zach was Tori and Gabe was Jade.
I even saw Reece and Ella sitting at the kitchen counter splitting a pint of ice cream, laughing and getting along as though they hadn't been feuding terribly for months.
"You know," I heard Reece say, "you were right to be angry, and you should take the time that you need. But you'll work it out." I had never heard Reece say something so mature and considerate in my sixteen years of knowing him.
Max and Clay were outside by the pool, and I guess having Noah and Clay hang out would be too clean of an ending. This is real life after all.
That night, I suggested that we all watch a movie—it was the best chill family activity I could come up with. We all gathered in the living room, squeezing on the couch. Ella even went and sat down next to Zach. The world is healing.
The only argument of the day was what to watch, and Gabe, Max, and I insisted we pick back up on the High School Musical marathon since it had been interrupted previously, and we won.
A lot of the boys liked to pretend they don't like this "girly shit" but they knew all the lyrics, especially Corey, who knew them even better than me or Scarlett.
When the first one ended, I was ready to watch them all, but people were tired. The last couple days were exhausting. While everyone was heading upstairs, Gabe pulled me aside and said, "thanks for putting this together, Scar. It means a lot to me."
I wrapped him in a big hug. "Of course, Gabe. I'm really happy we all made up."
"Me too."
