Scarlett

I walked into the living room, rubbing my eyes. I woke up probably an hour ago, but I hadn't actually moved.

As my eyes adjusted to the light, I caught a glimpse of Liam and Jules. They were cuddling, watching Love Island. Liam's arm was draped around Jules' shoulder, her body therefore leaning into him. Genuine laughter and smiles were flowing between the two. Everything about Liam's body language screamed he was happy. I couldn't help but smile myself.

I hadn't seen Liam this happy in awhile. He loves Jules endlessly, and I do feel bad that Ella and I took that from him.

A throw blanket was placed across them and the coffee table was full of snacks and drinks.

"Oh, hey, Scarlett," Jules smiled, noticing my presence.

"Hey," I returned the gesture.

"Did you need the living room?" Liam asked kindly, hinting that he would leave if I did.

"Oh, no! I just wanted to get out of my bed! I'll go to the kitchen, though. Something is bound to be going on in there!"

Liam nodded and he and Jules returned to their show.

When I got to the kitchen, there indeed was something going on.

The air was tense. Reece and Corey were going back and forth, yelling. Reece's eyes had a mixture of anger and betrayal. Corey, on the other hand, seemed stubborn. His expression was still while Reece's hands were flying everywhere with each word he spoke.

They hadn't even realized I walked in here.

"You're jealous, Cor! Admit it! You have always been!" Reece shouted, scoffing.

"I am not."

"I achieved a great accomplishment and you can't seem to be okay with it!"

"You always feel like you have to one up me," Corey shouted back.

"One up you? Corey, what? You just make everything a competition!" Reece laughed with disbelief.

I couldn't tell what they were arguing about. Therefore, I just kept listening.

"Reece, no I don't! You just get everything and I am sick of it!"

"I work for everything, Corey. I mean, really? You cannot stand the thought of me succeeding!"

"It's bullshit, Reece," his voice lowered a bit now.

"I work hard. I hate how every time I accomplish something, you have to act like it is no big deal and criticize me! You just put me down!"

Corey rolled his eyes. "Whatever, I'm not responsible for your stupid ego."

"No, I am not responsible for yours. Just because we are twins and play the same sports, doesn't mean I have to play down and work around your stupid insecurities to make you shine!"

Oh, so this is a sports argument?

"Insecurities? Are you kidding?"

"You're so self-obsessed!"

"That's ironic coming from Reece Romano."

"Thanks, Cor," Reece spat sarcastically.

"You copy everything I do and try to do it better!"

"Open your eyes, Cor! I am my own person who's effort doesn't revolve around making you feel shitty. You just don't ever support me!"

I cleared my throat, sensing their words just kept escalating in intensity.

Their heads turned to face me.

"How long have you been there?" Corey sighed.

"A while, but um," I said, "care to explain why you guys are so mad?"

"Corey hates how good I am at sports," Reece declared.

"Reece is always trying to be better than me," Corey shot back.

"Okay, but how did this even start?" I walked closer to them, leaning backwards against the island.

"Remember my buzzer-beater? Well Corey told the local news channel that I would not like to do an interview because he thinks I already had a lot going for me."

"You're the fucking quarterback and captain of a sport I started before you, you are the point-gaurd and captain of basketball, the team we both are on, and you constantly are bragging!"

"Being good isn't fucking bragging!"

"Guys," I yelled over them, "I don't think you're being reasonable here."

They just gave me a blank stare.

So I continued. "Corey is obviously just upset and, no offense, feeling a bit jealous. But Cor, you're great too. There is no need to put Reece down, though. You're his brother, you should be happy for him."

"So what, Reece is perfect in this argument too?" Corey spat.

"I'm not trying to get in the middle of this, Corey. I just think this is so stupid."

"Whatever," Corey rolled his eyes, storming out.

"He's fucking insane," Reece turned to me, still very angry.

"He's clearly just feeling a bit down and insecure, that is all," I shrugged.

"He doesn't want me to succeed, Scar! His own brother! I'd never do that to him or any of you for that matter!"

"Just give him time," I suggested.

"I guess. But if he brings that attitude to the court and sabotages the games and team dynamic for his own selfish reasons, I'm going to lose my shit."

With that, he too walked out. Things are going to be tense between them for a while.
