Color War.
We immediately took the color war extremely seriously. The division of teams came naturally after weeks of endless arguments, with Max as the moderator. Me, Scarlett, Noah, Corey, and Gabe were the blue team, and the other side was Brandon, Liam, Zach, Clay, and Reece, who were the red team. I had fought with every single one of them recently, so I was excited, especially to face Reece. That bitch is going down.
The first order of business was to split up the house and set ground rules. The war was to be a week and the rules were as follows:
1) The teams do not speak to each other unless during or about competitions.
2) All team members eat together at the same time, and each team has a specific time slot to use the kitchen.
3) You must wear your colors at all times.
4) There will be two activities a day, but not everyone will compete in each competition. Max chooses the games but teams pick which members will compete.
5) Rules apply at school.
Scarlett and I perhaps took it the most seriously. The night before, we took a trip to party city and bought everything they sold in blue. We even slept with our face paint on and reapplied in the morning, which our skin did not enjoy.
Both teams were eager to win. Ten competitive souls going head to head for three days straight. All this pent up anger being put to good use. Everyone was ready.
Max was a character for these few days. He sat back and relaxed on a lounge chair as the rest of us went to war.
The first day started off in the backyard basketball court. The elected members were Corey and Noah against Reece and Brandon.
A friendly 2v2.
Honestly, we didn't have faith in either Corey or Noah, so that didn't help their confidence...
"Shoot, dipshit!" I yelled.
"Box-out!" Scarlett coached.
"You both look like you have a foot up your ass!" Gabe critiqued.
We lost.
The game consisted of four, 5 minute quarters. Reece ruled the court effortlessly, bringing the score to 57-40...
Let's not talk about it.
The second activity was a math competition between yours truly and Brandon.
Max shouted obscure problems out at the two of us and whoever hit the buzzer first got to answer. If the first person got the answer incorrect, it automatically went to the opponent.
And it was all mental math.
"What is the square root of 49, minus 30, and multiplied by 17?"
"What is 1897, times 3, minus 4, plus 29?"
"What number times 17 equals 204?"
After a close race, I came out with the win. Noah, Scarlett, Gabe, and Corey engulfed me in a giant hug as we jumped and cheered.
Brandon, on the other hand, broke a glass vase in anger.
The second day had two more activities: another sports game and then a full group versus full group game.
First was a soccer game between Gabe, Scarlett, and I versus Clay and Zach.
Corey was our goalie and Reece was theirs.
