Vincent's.
Ngayon na ang unang araw ni Elizabeth. Naligo ako ng maaga at nagprepare ng magandang damit. Damn, Elizabeth. Ngayon ko lang to ginawa dahil wala naman akong pake sa dati kong tutor. Pero ngayon, I feel conscious sa itsura ko.
10am na at nakarinig ako ng katok sa pinto ko. "Sir Vincent, si Elizabeth po ito.", sabi ng kumakatok mula sa pinto ko. Naalarma ako dahil siya na pala iyun. Huminga muna ako ng malalim at binuksan ang pinto.
"H-Hi po, miss.", nahihiyang sabi ko. Ramdam na ramdam ko ang pag-init ng aking mga pisngi.
"Sir, may lagnat po ba kayo?", takang tanong niya habang malalim na nakatitig sa akin. "H-Huh?", tanong ko.
"Namumula po kayo.", sabi niya at laking gulat ko ng hawakan niya ang noo ko.
"A-Ah. Hindi naman. Ang init lang kasi eh.", palusot ko at pinaypay ang aking mga kamay para kunwari mainit talaga.
"Sir, halos mamatay na nga po ako sa sobrang lamig dito sa inyo.", she chuckled. At dahil doon, natanggal na naman ang angas ko.
"Pasok na po kayo.", pag-imbita ko. Nakita kong manghang-mangha siya sa kwarto ko dahil maraming mga display dito sa kwarto ko.
Hindi ko alam kung anong sasabihin ko dahil hiyang hiya na ako.
"Sir, I will introduce myself first and let's start.", sabi niya at humarap sa akin.
"I am Elizabeth Ramirez, you can call me Eli. I am 23 years old, 4th year college student po. Like you, I'm a med student too kaya ako ang kinuha ng Mom mo. I hope we can get a long together.", nakangiting pagpapakilala niya.
"Hi, Eli. I am Vincent Gamboa. Call me Vince nalang if you want. I didn't expect na mas matanda ka pa sa akin. It looks like we have the same age kasi.", sabi ko and awkwardly laughed as well as her.
"So can we start na ba?", she asked me. "Yes. Sure. Of course.", naeexcite na sabi ko. Damn, Vince. Bakit ka nagka-interest mag-aral?!
I told her to sit down sa isang chair na katabi ng chair sa study table ko.
"Our lesson for today is...", she said while getting something inside her bag.
She put a book on top of my study table and brought out her pens. "We're studying 'Body Anatomy'.", sabi niya. Medyo kinabahan ako dahil hindi ko pa alam ang mga ito. I never studied this before.
She flipped the book on its first page and read it. "What is anatomy? Do you have any idea about it?", tanong niya.
Napalunok ako sa tanong niya. "Hmm the study of the body's structure?", hindi siguradong sagot ko. She nodded and smiled. "Exactly.", she said.
"Ito ay isang pag-aaral ng mga organs, bones, structures, and cells that exist in animals and humans.", dagdag pa niya.
"We will study the whole body anatomy but we will focus on the anatomy of the brain. I heard na mag-neuneurosurgeon ka kaya let's focus on the brain anatomy.", she explained and I nodded.
"Brain has three main parts. Cerebrum, cerebellum and brainstem.", she read the book and all I did is stare at her shining eyes and pinkish lips.
"Cerebrum is the largest part of the brain. It performs higher functions like interpreting touch, vision and hearing. Also, in speech, reasoning, emotions, learning and fine control movement.", she read the book again.
"It means, cerebrum is the one who control our body. It is also involved with our memories.", she said to me, explaining the cerebrum.
"But... Even if malaki ang cerebrum mo, it doesn't mean you're a genius. Sabi sabi lang iyun. Most people have a large cerebrum. And not because malaki ang cerebrum mo, matalino ka na.", she emsaid at mahinang tumawa.
"Wala sa sukat ng utak mo ang katalinuhan mo. Para sa akin, nasa puso ang tunay na talino dahil kung gusto ng puso mo ang ginagawa mo, matututo ka talaga sa gagawin mo.", dagdag pa niya at ngumiti.
"Like you...", nagulat ako ng biglang pagtingin niya sa akin.
"I heard na lagi kang nangpupull ng pranks on your tutors that's why I applied to be your tutor. To educate you, to discipline you."
"And here you are, listening to me like you're willing to learn a lot of lessons. Kasi nga, your heart wants to learn that's why nasa heart ko ang katalinuhan, hindi sa utak.", natulala nalang ako sa sinabi niya dahil tama siya.
Gusto ng puso ko makinig sa kanya buong araw kahit ayaw ng utak ko ng kursong kinuha ko.
"Always remember, your mind is your enemy.", she said and winked at me na siyang nagpatigas ulit sa alaga ko. Help me please!!!
"What kind of discipline do you want?", she smirked at me kaya natulala nalang ako.
Agad ko namang tunabunan ang pagkabakat ko ng unan na malapit sa akin para hindi halata. Calm down, Vince!
"Tomato nanaman ang mukha mo, Vince.", sabi niya at nakatitig sa akin. Bakit ka kasi ganyan, Eli?
"Back to our topic. So ayun na nga, Vince. I explained the cerebrum to you. Next is the cerebellum.", she said and scanned her book.
"Cerebellum, also known as 'Little brain' because maliit siya kaya nga little brain.", she chuckled.
"It is located at the back of the brain. It helps with the coordination and movement related to motor skills, especially involving the hands and feet. It also helps to maintain posture, balance, and equilibrium.", she read the explanation in the book.
Marami-rami na kaming napag-aralan ngayon araw. Nakafocus kami sa brain anatomy ngayon, siguro bukas naman ang ibang body parts.
"I guess we can wrap up our lesson for today.", she said joyfully.
"Hmm may I ask you few questions para malaman kong may natutunan ka talaga?", dagdag pa niya at ngumiti. Again, nakataas nanaman ang aking alaga. Kanina pa ito nagwiwild ah.
"What is the main parts of the brain?", unang tanong niya. "Hmm cerebrum, cerebellum and brainstem.", nagdadalawang isip na sagot ko.
"Very good, Gamboa!", she complimented kaya napangiti ako.
"Hmm, what is the largest part of the brain?", pangalawang tanong niya.
"Cerebrum?", hindi siguradong sagot ko. "Yes, it's correct.", nakangiti ulit siya. Vince, kalma lang. Act normal.
"Lastly, give me one main part of the brain and give their function.", huling tanong niya. Dito ako napaisip ng sobra.
"Hmm cerebrum. Cerebrum is controlling our minds and body. It performs higher functions like interpreting touch, vision and hearing. Also, in speech, reasoning, emotions, learning and fine control movement.", detalyadong sagot ko. I remembered everything she teached me today.
"Exactly, Gamboa.", she said. "Ang galing mong magkabisa at matuto. For sure, magiging star surgeon ka balang araw.", she added kaya nagblush ulit ako.
"See you tomorrow, Gamboa.", pagpapaalam niya.
"Hmm, Eli?", pagpigil ko sa kanya. "Yes?", sabi niya.
"Can I ask if anong klaseng pagdodoctor ang gusto mo?", nahihiyang tanong ko. "I want to be a Cardiac surgeon. I want to study the heart because you know, our heart is important so I wanna learn how to cure those people who have diseases in their hearts.", she explained to me. Napatango nalang ako dahil ang ganda ng rason niya.
"Ikaw, Gamboa? Bakit neurosurgeon ang gusto mo?", she asked me. "To be honest, I was forced to study this kind of field. I never wanted to be a neurosurgeon nor a doctor. I wanna be an architect pero I need to follow my family's footsteps.", malungkot na pagkwento ko.
"Ohh, I am sorry. Pero I'll make sure you'll like this field na. Being a doctor is nice too. Makakatulong ka pa sa mga taong may sakit.", she said and pat my shoulders.
"I'll get going. Bye!", paalam niya ulit pero pinigilan ko siya ulit. "Can I get you number?", I asked and she smiled.
"Sure.", she smiled.
