As such, during the festive seasons over the past four years, Lisa always flew overseas and gathered together with Shin-hye and other family members without fail. Other times, they hardly met.
In the past four years, whenever Lisa attended the gathering, he always went on his own. He never brought along his wife and child even once. One could see how estranged their married life was.
This was also why Shin-hye was not satisfied with her daughter-in-law. She brought up her son so well, and he had never suffered any grievance greater than this. The greatest setbacks he had ever faced all came from this lady. It would be a lie if she were to deny that she was not angry with her.
After receiving the news about their divorce, their former master initially grew frustrated and later, he felt helpless. Meanwhile, Shin-hye was relieved because her son had finally set himself free.
However, little had she thought that her son would make a 180 turn with his attitude right after his divorce from this woman.
The moment Rosé brought the news to her, she felt incredulous and wondered why her son still had unresolved feelings for this woman.
After hearing Rosé's narration, she had to admit that her stubborn son's heart might have really... moved.
What was going on? Shin-hye could not understand this. In the following days, she paid attention to the woman whom she never did in the past.
The more she paid attention to this woman, the more she found that this woman was very different from what she had imagined. This woman was bold, decisive, resolute and determined which was completely different from the previous frail girl with a pretty face who pretended to look pure and cried all day long just to win a man's affection.
Had this woman changed within these four years? Or, perhaps... she had been like this since the beginning? Was it because they had misunderstood her, and they had never understood her?
If this was the case, it was no wonder her son would be attracted to this woman.
When Shin-hye heard Jennie's excuse, a hint of puzzlement flashed across her eyes, "Excessive blood loss?!"
Jennie looked indifferent when she saw the puzzlement on Shin-hye's face. Her eyes sparkled, and she instinctively sounded mockery, "Madam Manoban, didn't you know about this?"
"What?!" Shin-hye was shocked by Jennie's sudden change of attitude. She unwittingly felt unease.
Jennie looked at her profoundly. Then, she stretched out her hand and lifted it up in front of Shin-hye to reveal the hideous scar on her wrist.
After that, she enunciated each and every word clearly under Shin-hye's puzzled gaze, "Madam Manoban, didn't you know that I used to commit suicide for the sake of your son once?"
"Committed suicide?!" Shin-hye was completely dumbfounded. Never in her wildest dream had she thought this woman would commit suicide for her son.
The sight of the scar on Jennie's wrist was very shocking. She could imagine how she had narrowly escaped the unfortunate fate just by looking at it.
Jennie nodded as she was very satisfied with Shin-hye's reaction. At that moment, she had already calmed down from her initial shock of running into Lisa's mother.
After all, she did notslit her wrist on her own. Therefore, she did not feel any heartache for the wound.
The reason why she revealed the scar was not because she wanted to gain pity from her. It was because she wanted to make use of it.
Not long ago, Lisa had come looking for her to remarry her. Now, she bumped into his mother whom he hardly met even once. Moreover, she met his mother at Leo's kindergarten entrance.
If she had guessed correctly last time, everything had been too fortuitous to the point that she even suspected this coincident meet-up could be all but a deliberate conspiracy.
Therefore, she seized the opportunity by showing the scar to Shin-hye to let her know that this was the mark left behind as a result of her disappointment on her son who had cheated on her. There was nothing more straightforward than showing this to her.
With this scar, Jennie believed that this woman would not be so thick-skinned to request her to return Leo to them, or even talk about her remarriage with Lisa!
In truth, Jennie had really misunderstood Shin-hye. Although it was a misunderstanding, Jennie had met the expectation that she set for herself.
Shin-hye was snapped out of her daze after freezing for some time. Her finger was trembling as she pointed at Jennie's scar. She said in a low voice, "How... how did this happen?"
"It was nothing big. One day, I found out that my husband was having an affair with another woman in a room. I got so pissed off that I just couldn't understand why and so, I did this to myself," Jennie made it sound like a simple issue while pulling her sleeve down to cover that horrendous scar.
Shin-hye's heart thumped. She suddenly recalled Rosé had told her before that her son had purposely asked her to act with him in order to divorce Jennie. Not long ago, his son's secretary, Xia Zhetao had also discreetly asked her about the incident about her son having a mistress outside.
She initially thought that Jennie had divorced Lisa without hesitation just because she knew that she stood no chance anymore right after finding out about this. However, after hearing her words, Shin-hye realized the incident was not as simple as she had thought.
Could this woman have completely given up on him after the suicide attempt? As a result, this led to a drastic change in her character, and since then, she became a changed woman like she was now.
The more Shin-hye thought about it, the more she thought it was highly possible. When she opened her mouth and was about to speak, Jennie replied to her coldly, "Madam Manoban, if there's nothing else, I'll have to make a move first. I need to rush back to my work, so I won't talk to you anymore. If we have the opportunity next time, we'll..."
"Wait!" When Shin-hye saw Jennie was about to leave, she blurted out words to make her stay. When she saw Jennie turn back and looked at her bizarrely, only then did she realize how reckless she had acted just now.
"Madam Manoban, is there anything else?"
Shin-hye smiled awkwardly. She paused for a moment before she found a good reason and said, "Are you going back to Kim Enterprise? I think we should follow the way to the east, right? It just happens that we are heading in the same direction. There's something wrong with my car, You... Ms. Kim, could you please give me a ride?"
"Something's wrong with your car?" Jennie raised her eyebrows and sneered, "Madam Manoban, how did you come here just now?"
Shin-hye's initial awkward smile stiffened as soon as she heard Jennie's words. However, she quickly recovered her senses and lied to her calmly, "My car broke down while I was on my way here. The driver dropped me and went back to repair the car. I supposed I'd have to wait for a long time before he returns. As you can see, this place is a little... secluded. I'm afraid I'll have to wait long even if I call a cab..."
Upon hearing this, Jennie cast a glance at Shin-hye once again. She hesitated for a while. She could not bear to refuse a woman like her and so, she gave in and sighed, "Send Madam Manoban back to her place, then."
