Xiao Jingyao looked intensely into Jennie's eyes before he spoke, "I've settled the things over at the police station. I've also made my statements. Although the police said they would focus on this investigation, let us not have high hopes in them. I've already sent someone to check the whereabouts of the people who have escaped. I believe there'll be results soon."
Jennie nodded. The police could not be counted to solve such matters on their own. This was because most of the time when the police could not find out the suspect, the case would be closed.
Instead, she was surprised to learn that the matter of her firing a gun before the crowd being resolved so easily.
As she thought over it, it was not so surprising. After all, with her current identity, the fact that she could escape the punishment for doing this was something that was within everyone's expectation.
Jennie thought cynically to herself, 'All of us are equally human. However, if we were to compare ourselves with the rest, there are certainly some differences among us.'
"How about the person who fired the last shot?" Jennie was deep in thought for a moment before she asked in a low voice.
Originally, Jennie was very angry. However, soon, she no longer bothered about it much. She thought over it after she calmed herself down, and she realized that the person who fired the last shot looked familiar to her.
After she pondered over it for some time, Jennie recalled that the person was clearly the cannon fodder whom she had knocked out and grabbed his gun in the beginning.
Who would have thought that person would regain consciousness so soon after being knocked down by her, much less carry out a deadly attack that had nearly cost her life at that moment.
Xiao Jingyao misunderstood Jennie's question when she asked about that person. He hurriedly said, "That suspect is fine. He didn't die after being shot in the shoulder."
Jennie froze, and she looked up at Xiao Jingyao. She also knew that he had misunderstood her question.
Jennie was confident with her marksmanship. She had purposely shot that person in his shoulder.
Not only that person, but the other pursuers as well. Jennie did not kill them. She only shot them in their shoulders so that they only lost their mobility, not their lives.
It was not because Jennie was showing them mercy. Jennie clearly knew that she was not what she used to be. killing someone was not something trivial. The hassle that came after would be more troublesome than one could imagine.
She did not want to get into a lawsuit for the sake of those people. It was not worth it.
Of course, she did not explain it so much to Xiao Jingyao either. Xiao Jingyao had misunderstood her, thinking that she fired the gun out of anger, as such, her aim was off. This was to save her from having to think of ways to explain to the people around her. Who knew they might be the next Qin Huai.
As the saying went, the more one said, the more mistakes one made. Therefore, Jennie just went along with his words, and she said, "Oh, that's how it is. If so, I shall be more relieved. Apart from him, who else have they arrested?"
Xiao Jingyao shook his head, "The police searched the entire woods carefully, leaving no stones unturned. Apart from some bloodstains, they could not find others. The last person who appeared and fired the last shot is the only clue left behind."
"Those people are all fast runners. They could be recidivists," Jennie stroked her chin, and she said in a low voice, "If so, that person is the only clue left. Make good use of him, and get something useful out of him. On top of that, don't let such a precious clue loose."
Jennie remembered before Xiao Jingyao and the rest came to her, she had shot down a few pursuers.
Since the police saw the bloodstains without their sources, those people should have been taken away by their accomplice.
In other words, those people intended to erase traces of their own visit, yet, they were unaware that at the end of the day, they had left one of their own behind.
Those people would realize this when they did a headcount. By then, those people would get worked up, and they would return to kill that person in order to destroy the evidence.
Xiao Jingyao's eyes sparkled upon hearing this. He nodded, and he said, "I understand. I'll ask someone to keep an eye on the suspect. How dare someone lay a finger on you during broad daylights?! They must have thought we are nothing but dust!"
Jennie's eyes flickered. She recalled overhearing the words when she was hiding inside the bushes with Lisa, "Those people were paid to do their job. The main culprit is someone else."
Xiao Jingyao's expression darkened, "You mean they were contract killers?"
Jennie nodded. She told Xiao Jingyao the words she had overheard that time.
Xiao Jingyao fell silent for some time. He looked up, and he asked Jennie's tentatively, "General Manager, do you have any suspects in your mind?"
Jennie sneered, "My speculation might not be true. But, if I don't make any speculations, how will I discover the truth? I've offended a few people, and these people should gloat over the news that I've been hunted. Of course, one or two of them might react differently."
Xiao Jingyao's eyes sparkled, "I know what has to be done, then."
Jennie smiled with satisfaction. Immediately after, she seemed to have thought of something. She looked hesitant, "How about my parents..."
"We can't hide a serious matter like this from the president and Mrs. President. I suppose they should already know... General Manager, it's best not to go back to the company today. Let's go home and take a rest."
Jennie heaved a sigh, and she nodded, "Okay. I will go back in a while."
While Jennie was busy explaining the follow-up matters to Xiao Jingyao, little did she know that Mighty Secretary Xia had told Lisa about his eavesdropping at the corner just now.
By the time Xiao Zhetao returned to the ward, Shin-hye had already been fetched home by Mr. Butler.
Although Shin-hye was reluctant to leave her son behind, she had to go back to help to find the main culprit. In the end, she left.
Lisa was lying on the bed, while listening to Xia Zhetao's rambMoonbyul the entire story. His expression looked profound and unreadable.
"The man said Jennie shared the same name with a female police officer who died in the line of duty a few months ago? Moreover, they also shared the same temperament?" Lisa blurted out his words after keeping silent for some time.
"Yes, yes, yes. This is what the person has meant. Besides, I also heard that Ms. Kim had also asked him to investigate some people..."
Lisa narrowed his eyes. He recalled the documents which he had accidentally swapped with Jennie's when they ran into each other on the street back then. Based on the information given inside the folder, the people who had been investigated looked like they were...
When Xia Zhetao saw no response coming from Lisa, he smiled dryly. He refused to be left alone and so, he continued to ramble, "Speaking of which, I also wonder how Ms. Kim is related to that man from the detective agency. I never thought she would've asked the detective to carry out an investigation on the others. President Manoban, don't you find it weird as well? Why did she ask someone from the detective agency to conduct the investigation, instead of someone from the Kim family? It is simply unnecessary. Besides, I also recall something else. Last time, I bumped into Ms. Kim in the cemetery on the outskirts of the city once. I wonder why she was there..."
