"Thank you, Grandpa Kim." Lisa nodded his head before he picked up the bowl in front of him and ate his meal. He did not treat himself like an outsider at all.
Jennie cast a glance at Lisa while she was placing dishes on Leo's place. Looking at him doing so with ease, Jennie could not help but roll her eyes at him.
The old master was just being polite to him, and he was really treating this as his own house. That was very thick-skinned of him.
Unbeknownst to Jennie, when she glared at Lisa, the adults, who had accidentally bumped into the young couple when they were in the middle of "something", had interpreted it as some sort of flirting between themselves.
Even though the atmosphere at the dining table looked peaceful and harmonious, there was an inexplicable hint of bizarreness.
However, the adults were too embarrassed to take the initiative to break the deadlock, therefore, the awkwardness continued until...
"Jennie, you have to eat more of this congee. I specially ordered the kitchen lady to prepare this for you. It's very good for a lady's health." When Min-a saw the porridge being brought out to them, her eyes lit up. She attentively picked up a bowl and filled it up before she pushed it to Jennie's front.
Jennie's expression turned stiff. She looked down and cast a glance at the bowl of porridge that had been pushed to her front.
Red bean and longan congee... The corners of Jennie's lips twitched. She knew why Min-a had asked her to have this kind of food all of a sudden.
Jennie could not help but groan in resignation, "Mother, you and Father have misunderstood. He and I were just... discussing things."
"I wonder what you two have been discussing to the extent of embracing each other." Min-a cast a disapproving glance at Jennie. Her resentful glance was akin to saying that Jennie could not deceive her just because she had not been highly educated.
Jennie choked and she said embarrassedly, "That's because when we're discussing things, suddenly, we had a disagreement and get into conflict..."
"Ahem... A conflict? The conflict was rather intense and exciting..." Woobin's interruption at the nick of time had once again refreshed Jennie's perception of her father.
Jennie was rendered speechless by the couple. She sucked in a deep breath and was about to explain herself. Just then, she was interrupted by a certain old coot who had been watching the show since early.
"Jennie, there are no outsiders in this house. You don't have to be so shy. Regarding the affairs between you two, I don't want to comment much on it. Young people are usually more impulsive. I was once a young man too, so I could understand it. However, it's best to be a little more restrained on certain things. Don't have to go too far for it. You guys are still young and there's plenty of time. Don't lose a sheep for a half penny's worth. Health is most important."
"Grandpa!" Upon hearing the former master's exaggerating words, Jennie could not help but shout at him. She was about to interrupt him. Unfortunately, it was all too late.
The former master had basically spoken all he had wanted to. When he saw Jennie scream uncontrollably, he added without fearing the consequence, "Fine, fine, fine. Girls are usually more thin-skinned. I will say no more."
Right after the former master finished speaking, Lisa, who had no fear of making the matter worse, played along with his conversation, "Grandpa Kim, thank you for your advice. I'll pay attention to this and wouldn't let Jennie get too tired."
If Lisa were to say this in normal days, or before he followed Jennie to the bedroom on the second floor, it was definitely a decent sentence.
The crowd would interpret his words as he would lend his help to Jennie in her career, share her burden as well as ups and downs in life.
However, upon hearing Lisa's words now, the adults on the spot had interpreted them completely otherwise.
The veins on Jennie's head were visibly popping the moment Lisa spoke. Her hands, which she had hidden under the table, had quietly reached out Lisa's thigh and pinched him mercilessly right after she finished hearing his words.
What did he mean by he would pay attention to it and would not get her too tired? This rascal had clearly said so on purpose!
He had purposely made the matter worse and let these people misunderstand them. He deliberately made her a fool out of herself!
Even though Lisa could not help but have his expression changed slightly upon suffering such severe stinging pain, he did not stretch out his hand to stop Jennie.
He stared at Jennie so intently with his eyes filled with passions and helplessness as if he was watching an innocent child making noises. He accepted all her rude behaviors.
Jennie was very angry as she felt the disapproving gazes from various directions.
Upon realizing that her actions were in vain except for increasing the sinister and hypocritical man's impression in everyone's heart, Jennie decided to give up on squabbling with a certain one. She shifted her gaze and turned her attention back to the dining table.
In spite of all this, it looked like even gods did not intend to let Jennie enjoy her dinner in peace. Immediately after Jennie pulled her hand away, Leo, who had been sitting beside her asked her in puzzlement, "Mommy, is this congee especially for you to nourish your health by Grandma? Mommy, are you sick? Why do you need to eat this to nourish your body?"
Upon hearing the child's question in his silvery voice, the entire dining hall fell into dead silence for a few seconds.
After some time, Min-a was the first to react to this. She let out a bark of laughter.
Jennie's face turned red. She felt truly embarrassed and had wished to dig a pit and bury herself in it upon being asked this question by her own son.
Jennie was feeling annoyed and angry. She replied to Leo indignantly, "Children should not butt in adult's affairs."
This was Leo's first time watching Jennie in her current state. He bit his small spoon sullenly and did not dare to say anything more.
When Min-a saw this, she quickly switched the topic and said, "Alright, let's eat. We still have a child over here. Let's not bring up this topic anymore. Don't mention this."
Finally, they no longer dwelled on this topic. Jennie heaved a sigh of relief.
While Lisa enjoyed his meal, Jennie barely tasted the food.
It had not been easy until everyone had finished their meals. After Leo was handed over to Min-a, Jennie could not wait to send Lisa off from the Kim family's doorstep.
She felt incredibly regretful. Why had she been so thoughtless and invited him to her house? If she were to know that things would turn out like this, she would have instead made an appointment with Lisa and met him outside.
Now, it had turned out like this. Even though nothing had been asked, they had been misunderstood by their family members.
As Lisa got inside his car, he looked at Jennie who was standing outside. He did not mention the incident that had happened inside the bedroom.
The two had ended their previous conversation unhappily due to Min-a's appearance. However, in her heart, Jennie understood that the seeds of suspicion had sprouted in their hearts. If they just let the matter be...
She was deep in thought for a long time while facing Lisa's gaze. After that, Jennie looked like she had made a decision. She walked over to the side of the car and shouted, "Lisa."
"Yes?"
"I don't like others to conduct an investigation on me, especially people close to me. There are certain things... I don't feel like talking about them now.. However, someday in the future, I might... tell you about it..."
