Shin-hye had already sized her up when Jennie was about to speak. She unwittingly heaved a sigh of relief after finding out that Jennie was not hurt in any way, other than looking slightly ruffled just like her.
Shin-hye paused when she heard Jennie's question that she was asking hesitantly.
Today, everything that happened was totally out of her expectations. At the same time, she saw the other side of a certain one. She regretted neglecting her daughter-in-law in the past.
At that moment, she also wondered why she had instinctively lunged at her.
Shin-hye did not know how to explain herself. So, she wittily switched the topic, "I think it's best to get out of here first before we talk about this."
Jennie fell silent for a moment. She knew that this was not the right time to talk about this either. She nodded, and she decided to find ways to get out of the car.
Fortunately, the car did not overturn when it ran into the woods. One side of the door was stuck, but they could still come out from the other side.
Jennie and Shin-hye got out of the car one after another. The car stopped after it crashed into a very thick pine tree.
The lower end of the car was wreathed in smoke, while the front end of the car was deformed as a result of the impact. Luckily, the passenger seat where the crash took place was empty. Otherwise, the passenger would have already died.
Although it was not a direct frontal impact and they had barely survived, the driver had passed out as a result of such a violent car crash.
Jennie ran to the front and checked if he was still breathing. She heaved a sigh after confirming that he was still alive. She prepared to pull him out of the car. However, they were obstructed by the deformed shape of the car and tree branches, so the driver was stuck inside the car, and he could not move.
Jennie tried several times but her attempts were fruitless. Just then, they heard the sound of hasty footsteps.
Jennie and Shin-hye abruptly turned back and looked in the direction where the sound came from. As expected, the sound came from those people who were coming after them from that car.
"Jennie, we're..." Shin-hye forced herself to keep calm. Yet, her pale expression had revealed the fact that she was very nervous at that moment.
Jennie's eyes sparkled. She knew that those people were most likely coming for her. The driver was stuck inside the car. Without any tools, it was impossible for her to pull him out of the car.
If so, she might as well make a move first. Even if those people found the car, they might spare the driver because they could not see her.
Jennie's mind raced. She made up her mind in a flash. She bit her lips and against her own will, she pulled Shin-hye up, and they ran into the woods by taking advantage of it to cover themselves up so that they still stood a chance to survive.
Within Jennie's expectations, the pursuers who were in hot pursuit after them kicked the deformed car in a rage right after seeing the car was only left with the unconscious driver. Immediately after, they broke up into groups and continued to chase after them deeper into the woods.
Jennie was wearing a pair of heels while helping Shin-hye to escape. The fact that Shin-hye could not run fast and had more or less suffered some injuries from the car crash slowed them down. Therefore, they were discovered by that group of people in just a moment.
A loud bang was heard. The sharp noise frightened the birds in the woods, and they flew away.
Jennie and Shin-hye's hearts thumped. Those people were really... armed with weapons!
The bullet whizzed over their head. The feeling of the bullet grazing their scalps gave a bone-chilling sense of creepiness.
Jennie took out her mobile phone, only to realize her phone screen had cracked in half as a result of the car crash. Therefore, she could not turn on her phone at all.
Jennie cursed. She tossed the useless mobile phone to the side.
Those people were approaching them. Jennie gave a sharp look. She seized the opportunity and swiftly pulled Shin-hye into a dense bush by the side. She whispered to her, "Madam Manoban, those people are after me."
Shin-hye was already tensed up. Upon hearing Jennie's words, a bad feeling sprouted from her heart.
She was right. Jennie stared at Shin-hye seriously and said, "Stay here and don't move around. Once those people come here, I'll go out and distract them."
Shin-hye froze. Her expression changed drastically. She grabbed Jennie's hand, and she said anxiously, "No way. They outnumber us. More so, they are armed with weapons! They have guns!"
"I know. But, I'll be fine. You stay here and don't act rashly. Make sure no one is around before you run. Remember, try to run to the east along the main road. There are more people over there. They won't dare to act so openly. Besides, their target is me. As long as they didn't know you're inside the car just now, they won't make things difficult for you."
Jennie explained all this in a hurry. She did not have more time to explain further to Shin-hye. She ingeniously broke free from Shin-hye's restraints. She casually picked up a few large stones from the ground. Then, she rose up and ran to the other side.
Shin-hye slightly straightened herself up. She wanted to grab Jennie's hand but fell short of it. She watched Jennie missing her hand as she was running to the front.
Shin-hye's remained her outstretched hand position. Her face turned white. Her eyes were filled with tears, and she tried hard to hold them back. She covered her mouth and sobbed, "She's very silly... What a silly child..."
At that moment, Shin-hye finally agreed that her former daughter-in-law, although having a childish look, was braver than all the girls she had known.
Just then, Jennie did not know that her unintentional move had gained countless points in her former mother-in-law, or even future mother-in-law's impression about her.
If she were to know about it, the corners of her lips would have certainly twitched. She would reply helplessly that the reason she did so was because she did not want to drag the innocents down for her sake which caused her to feel guilty later. Moreover, the judgment was reasonably made based on their current situation. A certain one had overthought about this.
Jennie decided to lure those people on purpose. Naturally, she had to take some drastic measures. However, the only setback was that those people had guns. If they located her, she certainly would get shot to death. As such, she needed to look for some defense weapons before acting on it.
After making up her mind, Jennie carefully hid among the secluded bushes. She quietly waited for the pursuers approaching this way.
The sound of the sole of the shoes stepping on the dead branches were like hammers raining down on Jennie's heart.
Jennie held her breath. When she saw the pursuer's shoes were less than fifty centimeters away from her, she narrowed her eyes. The next moment, she threw the handpicked stones backward.
When the pursuer heard the sound of movement, he reflexively turned back. Just then, Jennie who had been squatting among the bushes quickly got up and lunged at him.
