A trace of panic flashed across Jennie's eyes. However, she quickly calmed herself down. She looked up to meet Qin Huai's intense gaze, and she smirked. "Mr. Qin, are you kidding me? Of course I'm familiar with the name. Who on Earth is not familiar with one's own name? Mr. Qin, is this what you want to know after beating around the bush for so long, about me knowing my own name?"
"You clearly know that's not what I'm asking..." Qin Huai grew more anxious when Jennie avoided his question. He spoke agitatedly, "Jennie is a female cop who died in the line of duty in the Shalnork police force a few months ago!"
Right after Qin Huai spoke, not only Jennie, but even Xia Zhetao, who had been eavesdropping on their conversation, froze. 'What did the man say? A policewoman in the Shalnork police force shared the name with the former Mrs. President? On top of that, that person... died in the line of duty?!'
Jennie had sensed something was not right since Qin Huai first spoke to her. But expecting it was one thing, being interrogated as if she were being dissected was another.
Ever since Jennie was reborn, she never thought someone would connect her to her previous self. Today, a person who did actually appeared, and he had questioned her to the point of frightening her.
Jennie was caught off guard. Her mind went blank for a few seconds. She was stunned for some time before she reacted to this. She pretended to look calm, and she asked, "There are more than tens of millions of people who have the same name as me. It's not a big deal if a female police officer shared the same name with me. Mr. Qin, what are you so worked up about?"
"Nothing big?" Qin Huai's expression darkened. His usual gentle appearance showed an unusual hint of seriousness. "Ms. Kim, the police officer who shared the same name with you, had unfortunately died in the line of duty just a few months ago. Coincidentally, when she died, there were a few people around her, and those people are the ones you asked me to investigate."
Qin Huai stared at Jennie intensely. "Besides, if the results of my investigation is not wrong, the eldest lady of the Kim family's mother had passed away when she was young. Ever since then, the eldest lady had been bullied by her stepmother and stepsister. As a result, she became timid and cowardly. After marrying the young master of the Manoban Family who didn't have the slightest bit of feelings for her, they had a rough marriage life. Even so, the eldest lady refused to let go of Young Master Mu after four years of marriage."
While speaking, Qin Huai's gaze turned fiery, "How could a person's temperament change so drastically overnight? How could she abruptly file for a divorce with her husband whom she had been so obsessed with over the past four years? How could she suddenly become so skillful to the extent of even firing a gun?!"
When he was at the end of his rant, Qin Huai was already pressing against Jennie's body. The look of excitement was clear on his face.
His heart was broken a few months ago until he first met with the person before him. Just then, his suspicion had already arisen when he noticed her micro-movements coinciding with that person. However, at that time, he did not think further about it.
It was not long until he accidentally saw the gossip about his client from the television. When he saw her name, Qin Huai's mind instantly went blank.
Jennie... She was called this name as well. It was exactly the same name.
Ever since the person died, this was Qin Huai's first time having such a strong desire, a desire to investigate and understand a person. Even though this was a reckless act that might end up futile, he persisted doggedly.
It was not difficult for him to find out about Jennie's background. It only took Qin Huai several days to gather all her information.
Jennie was the eldest lady of the Kim family, the former lady of the Manoban Family, the current general manager of Kim Group, and had an adorable son, but none of these were Qin Huai's concerns. All he was really concerned about was the difference between Jennie in the past and the present.
She was a coward before this. However, after she committed suicide once, her temperament had completely changed. It was as if... she had become a changed person.
A changed person... Qin Huai had grown suspicious ever since then. However, in the end, he dared not confront Jennie recklessly to confirm his suspicions.
He was scared. He was afraid that all this was only his own imagination due to him missing that person so deeply. It was all but his mind playing tricks with him.
However, he never thought that even though he did not do it, he was destined to face it.
He never thought he would bump into Jennie once again under such circumstances. Not only that, he had watched her fire a gun as well.
The moment the gun went off, Qin Huai felt the blood in his entire body had frozen. A voice in his heart kept screaming and telling him that... the person was her, it was her, it was her!
As a witness and the one who had reported the crime, he forced himself to keep cool. He went back to the police station with the others to make his statements.
After dealing with that group of people, he could not wait to rush to the hospital, because he had hoped to get an answer, an answer that he was subconsciously certain of!
With every word Qin Huai said, Jennie's heart clenched. She had never thought all that had happened to her would come to light someday.
What would a normal person think about supernatural phenomena like this one? Would they think it was a strange adventure or an ill-fated misfortune?
Above all, how would Min-a and the rest react to this if they found out? It had taken them great pains to adopt a child as their daughter, only to know the child ended up as an imposter while the real one had died long ago. Leo's beloved mother was gone. The child would be sad too, right?
Thinking of this, Jennie felt a chill running down her body. Her expression instantly turned incredibly dark. "You investigated me! How dare you investigate me?!"
Qin Huai did not care about Jennie's anger, nor did he answer Jennie's question face to face. He fixed his gaze on her, insisting on getting an answer.
Looking at him, Jennie was so angry that she nearly suffered from a stroke. She stretched out her hand and grabbed Qin Huai's hand that was placed by her side. She dragged him to her side, and she looked into his eyes as she sneered. "You want an answer, right? Well, I'll give you an answer, then!"
Qin Huai's eyes sparkled. He looked at Jennie expectantly.
"As you mentioned earlier, you asked me this question using your status as my friend. likewise, as your friend, let me answer you. The reason I divorced Lisa was because four years had been way too long for me, so long that I thought that even if his heart is made of ice, his heart would melt after so long. However, he did not care about me although I died for him once, and he even had a mistress outside. As such, I finally gave up. He couldn't grant me happiness. So, why should I curry his favor when he's giving me the cold shoulder? I'm not that cheap!"
