"Anthony's POV

"I thought about how there are two types of secrets: the kind you want to keep in, and the kind you don't dare to let out."
—Ally Carter

It had been a few weeks since the season ended, and I had been keeping myself busy. But today, I needed to start meeting with wedding planners.

I know I told Karlie she could plan the wedding of her dreams, but I wanted to put together a list of the best wedding planners, venues, and caterers she could choose from.

I was on a high—getting married, starting my life with Karlie. I knew I had a lot to work on, but I was happy nevertheless.

If I was honest, as long as I kept my parents happy, I would inherit my father's company. That would give me even more power to turn Carter Fairview Enterprises into the franchise I wanted it to be.

"Son?"

"Yes, Father?"

"Have you spoken to your bride about the wedding plans?"

"Not yet, Father."

"What are you waiting for?"

"She's still overseas visiting her aunt. She'll be back this weekend."

That's what Karlie's mother told me when I called. A sudden family emergency. But why didn't she stop by before leaving for the airport?

I found myself missing her. Three weeks without her, and all I wanted was to take her out to dinner, to see her smile.

"Martha, could you bring my breakfast to the study? I have some paperwork to catch up on."

"Of course, sir. And the wedding planners you requested? I compiled a list—it's on your desk."

"Thank you, Martha."

I walked into the study, picking up the list she had put together. Hopefully, Karlie would like one of these planners so we could get started.

The weekend couldn't come soon enough. I was ready to see her. Ready to plan our future together.

But something gnawed at me.

Why did it feel like Karlie was running from something?
