Amber's POV.
"Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end."
Amber was up early. Her driver packed the car as she prepared for the trip to the country.
She couldn't wait to see Karlie—to hug her, to remind her that no matter what, she was there for her.
But despite everything, there was one thing to look forward to—Karlie was turning 20 this weekend.
June 29.
She and Karlie's mother and sisters had been planning the biggest surprise party for her. Amber was grateful now that she had never involved Anthony in the planning. With the way things had fallen apart, at least he wouldn't have the chance to ruin this, too.
That didn't mean he hadn't tried.
Anthony had already secured the most lavish gift for Karlie—a home. The very house they were supposed to live in after they were married. He had gone all out—hired a full staff, left the design completely up to her, ready to make it into her dream home.
And the craziest part?
It was exactly like the farmhouse Karlie had drawn as a little girl.
Amber sighed. What would become of that home now?
So much had been in the works for them. So many plans.
And Anthony had ruined it all by being dishonest and disrespectful.
Still, who knows? Maybe things would work out somehow.
But one thing was certain—nothing was going to ruin Karlie's birthday.
Amber would make sure of it.

"They drove for hours, the steady motion of the car lulling Amber into a light sleep. This time, she had brought her lady's maid along—she wanted to make sure she had all the help she needed to make Karlie's birthday perfect.
Now more than ever, Karlie needed a win.
When they finally arrived at the Coldwater farm, Amber stretched and adjusted herself before turning to her driver.
