Anthony's POV:

"It has been said that time heals all wounds. I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue, and the pain lessens, but it is never gone." -Rose Kennedy.

Anthony lay in bed, lost in thought.

He had woken up early with Carter, given him a bath, and played ball in the backyard for a while. Now, Carter was in his room, napping—and Anthony was left alone with his thoughts.

Downstairs, his parents were on the phone with lawyers and family members, trying to salvage what was left of the Fairview reputation.

In all his life, Anthony had never felt so hopeless.

He had disappointed everyone. He had dragged his family's name through scandal and humiliation.

For a fleeting moment, he thought about leaving—traveling out of the country.

But no.

That would be cowardly.

His parents shouldn't have to clean up his mess while he ran away. He wouldn't do that.

He sat up, opened his drawer, and pulled out a small velvet box.

Slowly, he lifted the lid and stared at the engagement ring.

He was sorry.

Why hadn't he just told Karlie the truth?

Memories of her plagued him.

He shut the box and shoved it back into the drawer. He needed an outlet.

Growing up, boxing had been his escape. Maybe that's what he needed now.

He got dressed and headed down to the basement, wondering if his parents had packed away his old gear.

To his surprise, it was still there.

He stretched, rolling out his shoulders.

He needed to let out his anger.

Rummaging through an old box, he found his boxing gloves and slipped them on.
