Karlie's POV:
I don't need a bedroom to prove my womanliness. I can convey just as much sex appeal picking apples off a tree or standing in the rain.

Karlie was wide awake.

She had been tossing and turning, unable to find rest.

It was her 20th birthday.

Her coming-of-age party was just hours away, but with the scandal, the whispers, and the uncertainty, she didn't know how to face it all.

And then there was Aiden.

She hadn't seen him in so long.

The thought of it made her chest tighten.

Needing a distraction, she got up, got dressed, and went to see if Amber was awake.

But when she peeked into the room, Amber was fast asleep.

Karlie sighed and made her way downstairs, her footsteps light so she wouldn't wake anyone.

She opened the fridge, took out the milk, and decided to warm some up.

As a child, her mother always made her warm milk when she couldn't sleep.

She sat at the kitchen table, slowly sipping, staring into nothingness.

Then, something pulled her gaze toward the window.

She didn't understand why, but she felt an overwhelming urge to go to the lake.

She glanced at the clock.

12:30 AM.

Her heart skipped a beat.

She was a woman now.

The thought both excited and terrified her.

Karlie put on her shoes, grabbed her jacket, and slipped out into the night.

As she walked to the lake, her mind wandered to what her coming-of-age party would be like.

Would people be staring at her in pity?

Would they whisper about her behind her back?

She reached the lake, her safe place, and took a seat by the water.

The cool air brushed against her skin, sending a slight shiver down her spine.

She stared at the rippling surface, lost in thought.
