"Twenty years old, ready to be a woman, ready to leave the nest, ready to embark on all life's journeys. Today, I celebrate me." - Karlie Katelyn Coldwater.

It was 6:30 PM, time to put on her dress. Amber helped her get dressed. The deep blue ballroom gown fit her like a dream, the soft fabric cascading to the floor. She slipped on her matching blue gloves, her hands trembling slightly. The team refreshed her curls, smoothing them into soft waves that framed her face. Every detail had been meticulously planned, but Karlie still felt like she was floating through a moment that wasn't entirely her own.

She reached for the necklace Anthony had given her. It sparkled under the chandelier's light—a perfect, extravagant gift. A gift from the man who had humiliated her. A gift from the man she was supposed to marry. She should have tossed it aside. She should have refused it. But instead, she let Amber fasten it around her neck, the cold weight of the pendant pressing against her skin. Maybe it was a reminder. Maybe it was proof that no matter how much she tried to escape the expectations placed on her, she was still bound to them.

Amber finished adjusting the necklace, then stepped back, admiring her. "You look amazing, lovey. Are you ready to make your grand entrance?"

Karlie took a breath. She had no choice but to be ready.

"I am."

Amber and her sisters flanked her as they made their way downstairs. The entire house had been transformed. The glow of the chandeliers, the perfectly arranged florals, the elegant drapes—everywhere she looked, it was breathtaking. Her mother had outdone herself.

She had expected something grand, but this? It felt like a wedding.

She stopped in front of the guestbook, where every attendee would sign and bid her welcome to womanhood. Her stomach clenched. Womanhood. As if turning twenty suddenly changed who she was.

The gift area caught her eye—piles of elaborately wrapped boxes from family, friends, and, no doubt, from men who would make their intentions known before the night was over. It was tradition, after all. With her engagement to Anthony shattered, her parents would have to consider new suitors.

Karlie swallowed hard.

She sat at the head of the table, the soft melody of the musicians drifting through the room. The beauty of it all was undeniable, but so was the weight of expectation pressing on her chest.

The presenter took the mic. "Shall we get tonight started?" His voice rang through the grand hall. "Tonight, we celebrate Miss Karlie Coldwater's coming of age. First on the agenda, the elders' blessings."

Three elders, clad in ceremonial robes, walked toward her. Karlie sat up straighter, forcing a serene expression onto her face.

"My dear," one of them spoke, his voice deep and steady, "you are a woman now. We bless you with joy and happiness for years to come. We bless your womb so you will bring forth sons for your husband."
