Aiden sat back, engaged in a surprisingly great conversation with Cole.
After everything that had happened yesterday with Anthony, he had half-expected Cole to stay away. But Cole had proved him wrong.
Not only had he shown up, but he had come with news.
"I'm getting married in three weeks," Cole announced, handing Aiden an envelope. "I wanted to deliver your invitation in person."
Aiden took it, nodding. "Congratulations."
"There's more," Cole added. "I wanted to ask you to be my best man."
Aiden blinked, taken aback. "Me?"
"Yes," Cole said without hesitation.
Aiden hesitated. "Ariel is your fiancée's best friend, and she's also your maid of honor."
"I know," Cole nodded. "And for weeks, I've been meaning to ask you. I'm an only child, Aiden. I wanted someone I trusted—and I trust you."
Aiden exhaled, rubbing his jaw. He wasn't big on public events or celebrations. He didn't even like people. But Cole? He was one of the few people Aiden actually liked.
And Aiden didn't have many friends—apart from his brother. Maybe that was a sign.
"Alright," he finally said. "I'll do it."
Cole grinned. "Rehearsals are still ongoing, so there's plenty of time to catch up on everything."
He leaned forward. "As for your tuxedo, I can have you meet with the tailor. And the good news?" He smirked. "You'll get to spend more time with Ariel."
Aiden's face shifted.
Cole caught the change immediately.
He studied him for a moment before speaking. "Look, we all know that in our society, love is not the forefront of our marriages. Duty and honor are."
He leaned back. "But if you give it a chance, you might actually fall in love." He smiled. "Kat and I did."
