"You have another rank Bet and a rank Gimmel that you're forgetting about."
Lied looked around. "Who!? Where!?"
Kalego points at Soi and I. "You fools. I'm telling you, they're right there."
I can feel the stares coming onto me, as well as my anxiety. I don't look up from my book, hoping they'll ignore me and focus on Soi. I'm not the one who needs a double rank up, after all.
"WHATTTT!?" The entire class shouted.
Well, the jig was up.
It was a fun game, but it's over now.
After almost half a school year, they finally noticed me.
The day before the entrance ceremony
"Are you kidding me!? You're telling me I can't go to school for a couple months!?"
The doctor sighed. "Unfortunately, yes. These are grave injuries, you know. Going to school with your wings and body in this state? That's not happening. Not only that, in all my years of experience, I've never seen burns this bad before."
"Ughh, fine. I understand."
"Thank you. If you take it easy for a couple months, then your injuries should heal with just scars."
At home
Take it easy. Take it easy. That's easy! Just don't do much for... a couple months...
"What should I do? Should I prepare? How would I do that?"
Oooh! I can memorize the subject books! And get started on schoolwork! Wait, no... I don't have any of the books. I need to go to school for that...
Studying was out of the question. What else was there to do?
*Knock knock*
"Okami, are you there?"
Henri Azazel, the chief of security in the Netherworld's Border Control.
...Also the closest person I have to a dad, though he doesn't realize it.
"I am. Is it time already?"
I check my phone.
"Of course it is, coming here is too much trouble for me to do without making sure it was the correct date."
"You know, we could just arrange these meetings in the Netherworld so you didn't have to do this." I suggest.
"No, this is necessary. As a demoness living in the human realm, there is much more to it than just me checking up on you. Your living situation, as an example, should not disturb or endanger humans in case of a wicked phase, or if you lose control."
"Ok, *sigh* I get it. That's not the greatest example though. I've lived among humans all my life, I've never felt the urge to eat or hurt them. Plus, I have this." I show the ring, a magical tool, on my right hand, the one he gave me.
"Point taken. Anything out of the ordinary happen recently?"
"No, but..." I suddenly have an idea. "I do have a request."
He raises an eyebrow. "And what might that be?"
"I'm sure you've heard of Babyls Demon School before."
He seems to perk at the words.
"Yes, what about it?"
"Would it be possible to arrange a copy of their newspaper to be sent to a specific address in the Netherworld?"
Henri raises the other eyebrow. "Why?"
"Well, I was supposed to start there tomorrow and I went for a checkup to a doctor, and he said that I have some baaaaad injuries. I can't start school for a couple months, so I want to be aware of what's happening there while I wait."
His eyes widen behind his rectangular glasses.
"I-Is that so?"
This time I raise an eyebrow.
"Is that a problem?"
"N-No, it just wasn't expected. Very well then."
"Thank you!"
In the blink of an eye, he was gone. He already knew which address, I had used it before as a cover when we first met. Back then, I was terrible at controlling my mana, so when I accidentally unleashed a crazy amount of aura and paralyzed him, not exactly leave the best impression. But we're over that now.
The next day
I head over to an abandoned house in a forest in the Netherworld. It's not hidden, but it's not something you'll encounter unless you're looking for it. On the doorstep there was a newspaper, with a... peculiar cover page.
"Honor Student German Suplexes Freshman Representative!"
I can't help but burst out laughing. What an interesting guy! I hope we're in the same class.
There's also a note:
The class roster will be posted in 3 days. Check here then.
-Henri3 days later
I come back to another note.
Since you weren't there to be graded for your familiar, you've been automatically placed into the Misfit Class. A list of your classmates is on the back.
-HenriI flip the page. On the list, among the students, there are a couple family names I recognize.
Sabnock: something about weapons and my father in the few Netherworld history books I've gotten my hands on.
Asmodeus: known for fire and... lust, was it? They're nobles too, if I remember correctly. What a weird combination.
But there's one name that stands out to me.
Iruma.
Nothing else, just... Iruma.
That's the kid from the newspaper, right? The honor student? Isn't he Principal Sullivan's grandson? Why no last name? Just... Iruma. I mean, I didn't submit a last name either, but I actually have a reason for that. I don't even know who my mother is, and if I submit my father's last name... that would be opening a dozen cans of worms. But, back to the point. People already know he's Sullivan's grandson. Even if he has a special last name, they could just use Sullivan's and call it a day.
So why?Even so, I'm excited to go to school and meet all these people.
Even if I do have to wait a few months.
