S.O.S.

(A/N: I just noticed this, for some reason this chapter is being displayed before "Heartbreaking Discord", so if this is before it then please read that one first. It's not changing back, so sorry for the inconvenience!)

"16 minutes have passed since the start of the exams!" A device announces.

Already 16 minutes? That went by quickly.

"These four teams have been eliminated! Team Shax, Team Valac, Team Gaap and Team Purson! 50 minutes remain!"

"Soi's out already? Aww, that's a shame." I mutter dejectedly.

We've barely had any time to talk recently, I was hoping we could team up at some point.

Well, at least no emergencies have happened yet, things are moving along as they should.

"Anyways, we should get moving. A teacher should be coming from that way soon, so staying here won't help."

We walk off, moving according to the map.
Eventually, Komi checks in again, and I put the next set of routes into my map while we're walking.

"Is that what the mystery demon is telling you? The teachers wouldn't just tell you the routes, after all." Joha asks, peering up at the map.

"Yup! Well, not a mystery demon, but yeah, that's what she's been telling me!"

*Ping*

I quickly check my phone to see a text from Clara.

A photo?

I realize that the photo is of Soi being carried into the drop-out tent by his teammates.

That's becoming my wallpaper later.

I quickly put my phone away as Joha's about to reply, when an announcement comes on.

"Ding-doooooooong! Everyone, this is an urgent announcement from exam HQ! Transmission starting!"

A hologram appears from a nearby camera. It's Amelie, our 'commander'.

"To all 14 Misfits! Good job on your mission so far! I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but we have an emergency."

She plays the role pretty well... she sounds so serious about it.

A slideshow comes on.

"Our reconnaissance team managed to infiltrate the Babyls teachers' hideout, and there they uncovered a dastardly scheme!"

The photo switches.

"We've learned that the teachers are planning to use the hearts they're gathering to awaken a super powerful monster!"
Uh oh.

"Indeed, it is none other than... the great beast- Sullivan! He is the leader of Babyls's teachers and the strongest among them!!"

WAIT WAIT WAIT HUH!?

"What!?" Joha exclaims.

"The principal!? As in, the member of the 3 Greats!?" Novi asks incredulously.

The photos switch to a tutorial.

"According to our intel, Sullivan lies dormant in the principal's office. To put a stop to this plan, I want you all to try to reach the device that contains him. Once there, six of you must pour your mana into it! Doing so will cause the device to malfunction, and prevent Sullivan from awakening! You need at least 6 people! That's right, this is a joint operation! But use caution!"

...This was definitely Kalego's idea.

"Larger groups will make easier targets! We'll call this Operation S.O.S- Seal off Sullivan! Accept or refuse this mission at your own discretion! The time limit is 20 minutes!! I wish you all luck. Over and out!"

The transmission stops.

"Man, she plays that role well." Novi says.

""Right???"" Joha and I say at the same time.

"Anyways, what do you two think we should do? I don't want to make all the decisions, this is an exam for you two as well."

"Well... what are our options?" Novi asks.

"There's a secret room we can hide in, we can continue moving based on the routes, or we can aid the others in Operation S.O.S."

They think about it for a moment, then look at each other and smile.

""You thinking what I'm thinking?"" They ask at the same time. Joha turns to me. "Let's seal off Sullivan!"

We head to the stairs in front of Sullivan's office.

"Are there people inside already?" Novi asks as I check nearby presences.

"No, but there should be two teams coming up about... now."

Just as I suspected, two teams come into view: Asmodeus' and Camui's.

"We're already here..." one of their teammates says.

"That was surprisingly easy!" The one I assume to be Sabro's sister exclaims.

"Hey, Asmodeus!" I call, waving.

The teams notice me and run up.

"What a chance to see such beauties!" Camui exclaims, his eyes almost popping out of their sockets.

"I will pluck your feathers off one by one and deep fry you alive." I glare.

I can handle when he talks about me, but Joha's a different case.

This causes Camui to step back.

Zeze, the second top scorer, who I recognize from his name being on a fan, comes up in what I assume is an attempt to get our attention.

"It seems he cannot resist such beautiful flowers," he says, "I of course cannot either."

"Hold on." I say in a monotone voice and turning around. "Someone's coming."

As I say it, a teacher comes into view.

"Wow~! What a catch!" He says.

Professor Ifrit, a demon who specializes in fire magic. It's his bloodline ability, so he's better at it than Asmodeus.

"Caim." Asmodeus says.

"Yes?"

"I'm counting on you."

"As you wish."

Huh?

He turns to the underclassmen. "Everyone! Let's go upstairs! Run!!"

I turn to Asmodeus. "Looks like we're doing this together?"

He shakes his head. "No, I want to face him alone."

"Are you underestimating me?"

I whip around, putting up a barrier to protect Asmodeus and I.

Crap! We're already surrounded by flames!

"Though I suppose I'm just an unfamiliar face you sometimes see in the teachers' lounge... so let me introduce myself."

Uh oh...

"Have you ever fought someone who's more skilled with fire than you, Alice Asmodeus?"

Purple flames? Interesting...

"You sure you want to do this alone? It won't be easy." I mutter.

"Yes." He mutters back.

"Fine then." I place a hand on his shoulder and channel a little bit of my mana into him. "Here's my parting gift."

I release the barrier.

"Fractal."

I jump up, floating in the air for a few seconds, before undoing the spell and dropping to the floor in front of the stairs.

"Good luck!"

I head upstairs as I take one last look at Asmodeus.

I know you can hold him off.
