Harvest Festival, Begin!

The day of the Harvest Festival arrives. I put on the glasses Uncle gave me as I join the crowd of first-years. These glasses have some of his mana infused into them, so the concealment is even stronger than with my normal ones.

A couple people stand out to me: One is Orobas, obviously, though my research perplexes me.

The only thing possibly linking him to Baal is his rankings in everything, always #2, but that's it. Everything else about him is normal, other than the fact that he's really smart.

The other is extremely suspicious, but not in a dangerous way: Nafra Ampsey.

He's always hidden in a cloak, and the stench he emits is awful. According to rumors, you faint if you even go near him. No one's seen what he looks like, but no one wants to. Rank Gimmel(3), like me. Although he looks extremely menacing and is a member of the Student Council if I remember correctly, his mana shows that he's a very kind soul, and also very... feminine? Come to think of it, no one's seen what Nafra really looks like. People just assumed he's a boy. Huh.

I hear loud laughter in the distance. More people I'm keeping an eye on, the Dorodoro Brothers. They're redoing their first year because they skip too many classes to go to the Northern Battlefield, one of the much more dangerous places in the Netherworld. One is super loud and dumb, the other's calm and smart. Both are really strong, though, from what I've heard. Best to avoid that.

"...However, the center of attention is where Asmodeus and Allocer are, the Misfit Class!" I hear a guy say. Orobas and the brothers' heads whip around and glare at the poor guy menacingly,

What do they have against the Misfit Class? Well, this certainly makes things more interesting.

For me, that is!

"Speak of the devil, isn't that them?"

"Hey, Misfits!"

"We won't lose to you this..." they trail off.

I turn to look, and...

Oh wow.

They're all completely different from the last time I saw them. Some have dirt and bandages all over, most have completely different clothes, but the one thing that ties them all together is how serious and menacing they look.

Just what was their training like? I mean, mine was bad, but I could handle it because of my mana! Was theirs close to as bad as mine??? Their aura is a lot more menacing now...

I notice some rustling in the trees. 4 of their mentors came to watch. The only ones missing are Lied's, and...

Iruma's.

Where even is Iruma? Now's not the best time to disappear.

I turn my attention back to my classmates, who are now arguing over who's training was the most brutal.

Why would they fight over something like that? I mean, mine was the worst by FAR, definitely. But that's still nothing to be arguing about.

Oh, Iruma's here now!

A teacher announces the impending start of the event, and Lied calls for a Misfit huddle. Since no one'll notice me, I join in.

"I've got a lot to say, but for now let's just agree on one thing! Let's say..."

He lowers his voice to barely a whisper.

"Ehh!? A-Are we really going to say that!?" Iruma asks.

"Everyone here has endured their training just for this day, the rank promotion test! Let's go all out and overcome this hurdle! For our sole purpose! Now, on three! One, two-!"

"""GET IN OUR WAY AND WE'LL CRUSH YOU!! BRING IT ON!! DAMMIT!!!""" We all shout in unison.

I smile as I look at the terrified faces of the other first-years.

That'll teach them not to underrestimate us.

"...Let the Harvest Festivallll... BEGIN!" Professor Dali announces. He and Professor Suzie are commentating the event.

I run off to Block 4, and find a secluded area. I look around to make sure no one's near us.

"So, you wanna work together, Soi?" I ask. He slowly appears in front of me.

"I thought I was doing a good job of staying hidden..." He mutters.

Déja vu...

I grin. "Nah, you were, I just know you well enough to know that you'd wanna team up since the others did that too."

"I guess we do know each other pretty well at this point." I see a small smile creep up on his face.

"Now, what's your goal for this?" I ask him.

"Really, it's the same as anyone else's. Make it to the end with as many points as possible. And not to stand out. You?"

"Mine... is the same as yours, though I do want to collect some information on a few people. They've been acting really weird, and I want to make sure they don't hurt anyone."

"That makes sense." Soi says. "So then, how about we divide and conquer? Let's split up for today, and meet up again here at nighttime."

"That's a good idea," I smile. "Let's do that then! Good luck!"

"Good luck to you too-"

""Thank you for the meal!""

IRUMA!?

Instinctively, Soi and I use our respective concealment magic and check the source of the noise. We see Iruma and Lied sitting around a pot, eating a pot of ingredients.

Hmm, that's actually not a bad idea. We can't forget to eat throughout the day either.

That's a full meal though... It's a little early for that, isn't it?

We hear rustling in the bushes nearby. I decide not to stick around to find out what that was, and head off quietly.

I find a cave with few ingredients inside. A presence check tells me that there aren't any beasts living inside it, perfect for a base.

"For today, I'm gonna just gather points and sort them. We'll need some for cooking and eating, too, so that we don't get too exhausted during the days ahead." I say. "This'll be our meeting spot, I'll set up some magic so no one else comes in."

"Got it."

And we both leave.
