Joha POV
As Komi stares at me, all three of us safe inside the secret room, I stare back at her.
And we stare.
And stare…
Until I finally blink.
“Dang it!” I whisper. “You’re too good at this. How’d you manage to beat both of us!?”
Her tails swish side to side.
“I've never played this game before today. It's very fun.” She whispers in reply.
“Really!? I-”
Suddenly, we hear muffled faint footsteps gradually getting louder, and Komi immediately moves in front of Novi and I as I move in front of Novi.
We can’t afford to lose his heart… I already got mine popped.
Komi insists that it was her fault for not protecting me well enough, but I know it was mine for not being careful.
Speaking of earlier… I hope Okami’s alright. Everything was fine, but then she got so serious, and Komi won’t tell us what it is either.
Anytime we ask, Komi’s tails go down and her ears start drooping, so I know it can’t be good.
"Komi?" Novi asks once the footsteps get far enough away.
"Yes?"
"Okami will be okay, right?"
Her ears stick up as she turns around.
"Of course. Master is quite strong. I do worry about how little she cares about herself compared to her classmates, but she will be alright. Her injuries shouldn't be too severe."
"Injuries? Is she fighting!?" I ask, now even more worried.
"Lower your voice, please. And… I shouldn't be telling you this, but I will make an exception if you promise not to tell anyone, especially Master, that you're aware."
We both nod, so she reluctantly continues.
"Master is much stronger than the average rank He, but she doesn't enjoy standing out. But, she will throw herself into whatever situation necessary to protect those she cares about. An… oversized pest has made its way into this school, so Master is doing her best to take care of it."
Whoah…
"Huh. Why doesn't she just leave it to the teachers?" Novi asks.
"Simple. The teachers have not dealt with him before, but Master has."
"Amazing…" I breathe. "We really got lucky, huh, Novi?"
He nods.
"But she can't know that we know, so no mentioning it."
"I got it, geez!" I pout. "You have no faith in me…"

“Um. Joha?”
I turn to Novi, who shows me his watch. Komi's summoning expired, so it's just us two.
“The Heartbreaker’s over. It ended about a minute ago.” He says.
Uh oh…
"Where's Okami? Do you think she was able to handle the situation?"
"What if she got hurt? She might be in the infirmary! We should check.”
I open the door and we rush to the infirmary.
“Okami!? Okami, are you-”
“Quiet down!”
I see three Misfits. One awake, Sabnock, with his teammates sleeping on his bed, and two others. Caim, and Okami.
“She needs the most rest out of all of us.” Sabnock says.
“Oh… is she okay?"
“She got hurt, but she’s strong. I have no doubt she’ll have a speedy recovery… Hey, hold on, you have a heart!”
We look over.
“Yeah, so?” I ask before realizing. “…OH.”
“The ceremony! We need to go now!!!” Novi exclaims.
“Thanks for the reminder!” I tell Sabnock as Novi and I bolt out.
I quickly realize I’m not quite sure where I’m going.
"Where's the ceremony!?" Novi asks.
"Outside! I think!”
"WHERE outside!?"
"I don't know! Somewhere inside school grounds outside!?" I suggest.
"Oh, really!? I thought it was in the Northern Battlefield!" He replies sarcastically.
"You would've said the same thing!!!"
"...Okay, fair point!"
We pass through an empty, but destroyed hall. I can't stop my mouth from gaping open at the sight.
"What the hell happened here!?" Novi asks incredulously.
"THERE IS A PERFECT CIRCLE CUT FROM THE CEILING." I say, eyes wide in surprise. "HOW DO YOU EVEN DO THAT?"
"Wait, no! We need to keep going! We can't get distracted!"
Somehow, we manage to find it, though we're late.
"...And that's all for the survivors announcement! Now it's time for the main event! After all, the Heartbreaker is a rank exa-"
““WAIT! OBJECTION!”” Novi and I shout, panting.
Exasperated, I point to Novi.
“We have a heart!”
“Huh!?”
“Another!?” I hear someone ask.
“...The teachers have confirmed! Team Okami, get on the stage!”
