The next day after school, I head to the training grounds near Sullivan's mansion. Opera is already there waiting for me, ready to get right into it.
"Alright, first… attack me with everything you have." They say.
Mana Output: Level 7
"Ok, here I-"
"Didn't you hear me?" They interrupt.
"What?"
"Everything you have. Take off your ring." They point to it. "That's limiting your mana output, right? So take it off."
"I-I'm not going to do that. The last time I lost control of my mana without this…" I trail off.
"What happened?"
"Um… I might've paralyzed a… pretty high ranking demon."
"Would I know who?"
"...You've probably heard of him…"
"Go on, then."
“...”
“Say it.”
“...”
“I’m waiting.”
"...Henri Azazel." I finally mutter.
Their eyes widen a little in shock.
"As in-"
"Yeah, yeah, the one you're thinking of." I say, a little exasperated.
"I see. Very well then, keep it on. Still, do your best to land a blow on me without any weapons." They say, still looking pretty surprised.
I nod.
Let's try this first.
I run forward and a little past them before trying to land a blow from behind. They dodge it swiftly, so I whip around in an attempt to kick but I get blocked by their hand.
"I see. Your martial arts could definitely use some work, and your magic and attacks aren't the most refined, so that's something to work on." Opera says.
They pull out a notebook, write down something, rip out the page and hand it to me.
"Practice these exercises, we'll try again tomorrow."
That's it for the first training session? Guess these won't be as intense as I thought.
When I get home, I look over the list and pale a little.
Aren't these a bit much? These are way more than intense! I can handle it… I think... but this has to be overkill!
If it weren't for my abundance of mana, I would've been down by the end of the first exercise. But by the end of it, I'm certainly ready to.
These are exhausting!
The training with Opera themself got longer and longer, and this gruesome cycle of training with Opera, intense exercises at home, and using up most of my mana helping my body keep up with it went on for a while. Slowly, though, I needed less and less mana to keep up.
Then one day…
My door at home slams open.
“Hiiiiiiii! I’m here, my darling niece!”
WHAT!?
“Uncle, why are you here!? You didn’t tell me you were coming!”
“I know, it’s a surprise visit~” He looks down at me. “What’re you doing?”
