Secret Support

I get up high for a better view of the park. The Carmine Dragon and Panther Rat are still up, but I'm not sure who to support.

One group has Amelie, the other has Sabro and Asmodeus...

Wait. Won't they just fight?

Now that I've made my decision, I head straight for the Carmine Dragon, where I last remember their group being. I make it in time to see them slowly taking down the dragon together...

But still bickering about who did better.

Iruma's watching, as well as Balam, so I change my disguise to a taller woman, short purple and green hair, and green eyes. I also turn off my concealing spells, because that's now just a waste of mana, and raise my limit by one. I'm watching from afar, and it's taking most of my willpower not to scold them right now for being idiots in such a situation. I'm pretty irked just by watching.

They just attack once, and yell at each other. Attack, then yell. Attack, yep, attack, yell... How annoying.

"AZZ!" I hear Iruma yell desperately.

While we were all distracted, the Carmine Dragon was preparing a strike. A blinding light is emitted, and through it I can barely see Sabro fly in front of Asmodeus, without any protection.

He's gonna die if he takes the full force of that!!!

In the few seconds I have before that thing fires, I turn up my limit by one more level as I fly as fast as I can in front of them both and set up a barrier.

I close my eyes and focus as the dragon's fiery breath is shot at us, and...

When I open my eyes, both us and the barrier are intact.

It worked!!

I turn around and Sabro and Asmodeus are staring at me in both shock and slight awe.

"What in the world were you thinking!? You probably would've died back there, even with your bloodline ability! How foolish can you get!?" I yell at Sabro.

"Yes, why did you try to save me?" Asmodeus asked.

"Saving you from that situation would've made me look... extremely cool!"

I freeze for a moment.

I never realized it before since I never got close up to him, but he looks... a lot like a certain someone.

I snap myself out of it quickly.

"WHAT KIND OF REA-" I start, but I'm interrupted by the dragon yet again with its breath.

We hide behind a stone wall.

"Hold on... how do you know about my bloodline ability?" Sabro asks.

Whoops.

"I, uh, I don't... you two should retreat," I tell them.

"What!? I have plenty of mana left!" Asmodeus complains. "If you'd like to retreat, go ahead, but-"

"I agree." Sabro interrupts.

Sabro's willing to make the tactical move but not Asmodeus? How ironic.

"You might still have the power to fight, but you'll likely die." I say, and turn to Sabro. "I'll leave this to you then."

I fly up out of hiding. My main goal right now is to let those two escape. They've worked hard enough already.

The dragon swings its massive claws at me a few times, and my barriers deflect them surprisingly easily.

Is it going easy on me or something???

The next time I look down, there's a wall of fire on the ground and those two are running off.

I hear the dragon charging its beam again, and I prepare my barrier, but...

It's not aiming at me.

It's aiming at them.

I can't get close enough for a barrier to reach them in time!

Before I can make a decision on what to do, the dragon has already fired...

And Balam blocked it.

I forget he's Rank Chet(8) sometimes.

I really do underestimate people, huh.

"You should get going, Oka- miss," he calls to me.

...So he knows...

"Very well then, take care!" I reply, and fly to what would be the top of the lost child center.

I come to a stop mid-air when suddenly, I see the 3 previously defeated beasts turn into some sort of light who I recognize as pure mana, and converge in one spot, before finally taking form as all 3 beasts combined.

"Are you kidding me!?" I exclaim.

I'm not in a rush because I know that there are 3 strong presences around the new beast right now. Balam, Sullivan's security devil Opera, and who I assume to be Kalego. It's different from normal, though, almost... lighter? Whatever the case, the three of them can easily deal with it.
As I predicted, the beast is knocked out quickly. I decide to still go and check up on them, when suddenly...

The beast gets up, and it looks a concerning amount more powerful than before.

With a quick check, I determine the worst case scenario:

That thing's a giant ticking mana time bomb without a timer, heading straight for the shelter where all the civilians are.

Oh no, oh no, oh no! What do I do!? They can't handle this! What can I do!?

There's one thing I might be able to do, but...

It's too dangerous.

What if I lose control!? That would do way more damage than if nothing's done!

But so many people will die...

I twist my ring.

Is it worth it?
