Ep. 9 "RoZwell" Ch. 4/6

Joy strolled calmly next to Addy as they followed Bernadette through the twisting hallways of the Air Force base until they were back outside where all the planes were parked, but that wasn't the weird part, the weird part was the big sign made on the ground with PVC pipes saying 'Welcome E.T'.

"We didn't find a radio." Warren spoke for all of them while Joy went to 10K's side, tucking herself under his arm forcing him to hold his rifle with one hand instead of two.

"We did find some Zs, though."

"Surprise, surprise." Murphy didn't look nearly as amused as anyone else was by the situation, and the amusement was already pretty low with the rest.

"Oh yeah, it was great for bonding."

"Rest of the place is gutted." So the whole waste of fuel was for nothing so far, Joy could already picture how cranky Murphy was about to get for that.

"Well, somebody's got nice handwriting." Doc came in to the conversation, returning from his spot inspecting the massive PVC written sign.

"I did that. This is where they're going to land." Bernadette spoke proudly while gesturing out towards the field. It sort of made sense, if anything was going to land anywhere, an abandoned air force base seemed like the perfect place.

"But you said they prefer the term visitors, so why call them the abbreviation for extraterrestrial? Did you run out of pipes?" Joy laughed at her own joke, but by the sudden serious look Bernadette had adopted something told her she hit the situation right on the nail.

"And how the hell do you know what that stands for, kid?"

"10K made me watch E.T like thirty times."

"Twenty seven." Joy shrugged, lacing her arms around 10K's waist to cling even tighter to him.

"Close enough."

"What makes you so sure that these 'aliens' are the good guys, anyway?" Murphy suddenly interrupted which Joy just rolled her eyes to. They knew he was a skeptic to extraterrestrial life, he didn't need to keep shoving it in their faces every couple of sentences.

"Leave her alone, Murphy." Warren warned, but Bernadette seemed more than happy to answer Murphy's question.

"They won't save everyone. Only the ones who've been called. They've seen what we did to ourselves. They don't want us doing it to them. But they believe there's still hope for some of humanity." Murphy chuckled humorlessly at the explanation.

"You better hope they have a higher opinion of humanity than I do."

"What about the top-secret areas?" 10K questioned, and for the first time since she met Bernadette, Joy saw her enthusiasm fall off her face. Joy knew that look, she always gave Warren that exact look when she asked about who had covered Murphy's hand in poison ivy.
