Reversal 43

"Taehyun where have you been? You didn't answer any of my calls."

Taehyun didn't reply and just let himself finish taking off his shoes and totally enter the house. He arrived early in the morning and saw Hueningkai preparing for work.

"I can't eat with you right now and I'm a bit late for work so just eat alone, okay?" Hueningkai stated instead when he knew Taehyun's not gonna answer him. He tucked in his bag and went in front of Taehyun. "Babe, this day is going to be really big for me so wish me luck, okay?" he tried to smile.

"Kai—"

"I'll buy you whatever you want when I get home, okay? Can I have a kiss—" Hueningkai pauses from leaning forward when Taehyun avoided him by moving his face sideways. "Babe..."

"Kai, I'm calling off the engagement. Let's break up."

Hueningkai gasps. He expected it. Stupidly, he already expected this but he can't just accept it right now. So he tried to smile and hold Taehyun's both arms. "Later, okay? L-let's talk later," he said trying his voice not to crack.

"Hueningkai—"

"Please," Kai gripped Taehyun's arms and bit his lowerlip. "Later. Let's talk about it later. I'm going now," despited of a broken heart, he still kissed Taehyun's forehead before leaving.

When he closes the door and cold wind greeted him, he felt some chills that made him almost cry. But he stops those feelings and continued walking. He arrived at their office and he's already late. He tried his best to occupy himself by becoming busy but thoughts are already killing him.

Isn't he enough? Where did everything went wrong? How about all the years that they have been together? Who's the other guy- no, that does not matter. Can't he give what Taehyun wanted? Questions are killing his insides.

"Gather up!" a voice of an old man was heard in front of the employees. "You know it's a great day today, right? Our time for promotion! You guys all did well, each of you really did a great job but for today's promotion only one really did a promising one! This person is going to be promotes as a Manager! Who could it be!?" the Senior Manager announces with a big smile.

Hueningkai should have his hopes up or at least be excited but at this point, he can't even lift his chin to look. He's just looking at his worn out shoes.

"Hey Kai! Congratulations in advance buddy!" someone greeted Kai that made him look at that person and smiles for a second.

"We aren't sure about it," Kai simply replied.

"Congratulations! Mr. Lee! Wow! You are now promoted!"

Some claps, some just stared, some worriedly looks at Hueningkai. Most of the employees know at their department that Hueningkai worked the hardest; constant OTs, friend to all, great senior, almost never failed on job, and skillful. But still it wasn't him.

Hueningkai smiles and claps. "Congratulations," he almost whispered and continued working like it didn't affect him.

A celebration happened and Hueningkai just sit in there with the others, drinking. He should go home, Taehyun must be waiting for him yet at the same time he doesn't want to see Taehyun for now.

He's afraid.

He tossed and drinks. He can hear his colleagues saying he should take it slow down but he just want to drink until he dropped. The promotion. That's the only way he can think to make Taehyun stay but look at what happened? Taehyun will probably really leave him now.

"Fuck," he cursed and bottoms up. "Idiot! Stupid! Stupid! Fucking asshole!" he suddenly yelled and hit his head with his palm.

"Hey! Mr. Huening! What the hell are you doing? Just go home if you can't accept your promotion!" the senior manager scolded him from the other table.

Kai stands up, really mad. "Son of a bitch," he cursed him and storms out.

He waited for a bus and gets on when one arrived. He lean his head against the chair and closes his eyes. He can feel his heart getting tighten. He can feel something from him will really get lost.

His phone vibrates and it's his mom, calling him. He didn't answer the first two rings but when she called again, he finally answers it. "Why?"

(Punk! What did I just hear that you didn't get promoted, huh? What have you been doing?)

Hueningkai remained silent and just looked out through the window. "I'm sorry," he muttered.

(Sorry!? If you should have just worked better! Good thing Taehyun's salary is higher—)

"I'll hang up now, mom. Let's just talk some other time."

Hueningkai ended the call and turn his phone off. He can't just take everything at once. It feels like he's getting suffocated from everything. He gets off from the bus and stayed on his feet for seconds. The bus started to move away and when it cleared the way he finally saw it with his own eyes.

Taehyun getting off from a luxurious car and he's not alone. Someone form the driver seat gets off too and went to Taehyun's front and hugged him even kissed his forehead. He saw how Taehyun smiles at the other guy and wave his hands when he gets back the car and drives off.

Taehyun started walking and their eyes meet. It feels like it's just the two of them; one on the other side of the road and one are on the other side as well. Hueningkai stares at Taehyun even if they are afar from each other. Hueningkai suddenly felt sober and just wanted to hug the other and reclaim him, he wanted to hold him and tell him that he's his.

"I told him not to steal you from me... because I know Beomgyu will really win again."
