The Lord's Prayer; A New Cry

60 11 4

Maker in heaven, I know you hear my plea,
Is this your design, a life so unreal?
Evil abounds, sinners sprout like a tree,
Battling not just to win, but to survive the ordeal,
Cruelty surrounds us, neighbours who deceive.

Is this your promised kingdom come?

Grant us, in this era, our daily bread,
Leaders care not, but to fill their pockets with greed,
Material and spiritual possessions they spread,
Leaving us voiceless, their false promises impede,
Tax burden weighs heavy, taking all we have fed.

Is this your will we live?

Taxes soar high, crippling the economy with their lust,
Charging rich and poor alike, with no respite,
No food, no drink, just crumbs and dust,
Toiling all day, hoping for sustenance, we fight,
But the government takes even the little we trust.

Is this how it is in heaven?

Shall we forgive the trespasses of those who betray?
They steal our land, enslave sons and daughters,
The law they control, leaving no room to have a say,
Justice for your people, denied by their orders,
In the arms of the enemy, we cry and pray.

What happened to your commandments?

Tempted we are to seek vengeance, Mighty One,
But they hold the judiciary, their power reigns,
We're left powerless, justice nowhere to be won,
Yearning for a better course, free from their chains,
Deliver us from evil, let your kingdom come.

Rescue us, please, if you may?

For your hallowed name, Almighty God above,
We long for your kingdom, power, love and peace,
Where justice prevails and evil cannot shove,
Your Glory, life we seek, where conflicts cease,
In harmony forever, guided by your love.

Doesn’t Earth deserve redemption?

Amen.
