The Despotic Regime

In a land once free, now plagued by strife,
Our chosen leaders have betrayed our life.
Promising upliftment, a bottom-up scheme,
But oppressive rules are their wicked theme.

They speak of equality, of bridging the divide,
Yet their actions crush us, leaving us defied.
The rich tumble down, stripped of their wealth,
While the poor are buried, suffocating stealth.

Starvation grips us, a merciless tide,
No longer confined to those on the side.
A top-bottom strategy, crushing us all,
Except for the leaders, standing tall.

New taxes burden us, with each meagre wage,
Leaving us stranded on an uncertain stage.
Development they claim, but we know the truth,
Billions squandered, lining their pockets, uncouth.

Structures half-built, abandoned and decayed,
Our predecessors' work destroyed and betrayed.
The guise of progress, a hollow facade,
While they feast on power, a gluttonous squad.

We yearn to raise our voices, to protest and fight,
But fear grips us tightly, extinguishing the light.
Unquestioned deaths, disappearances abound,
Those who fight for rights can never be found.

What has become of our once noble land?
We need salvation from this tyrant band.
Selfish grabbers, hoarding all they can take,
Their gluttony infects, even the unborn they break.

Death lingers in the air, a haunting dirge,
We're a dying country, consumed by this scourge.
But in the depths of despair, let hope arise,
United, we stand, for justice, we'll defy.
