It had been two nights since the tragedy, and Elaina had stayed in her chambers. The queen woke the next day to find out the loss of her child, and the marriage between Laenor and Rhaenyra.
Viserys had not spoken to her since her awakening, the only guests to visit her were her children and Alicent. Not even Harwin came by to see her, to grieve with her.
Alicent reassured her sister that Aegon and Helaena were being taken care of by her, while she rests and grieves the loss of the babe. The babe that never got the chance to see the light of day.
Aegon had tried his best to comfort his mother, smothering her with kisses like how she would when he felt sad. Yet, the haunted look on her face burned into his little mind.
Elaina sat up from her bed, looking toward the window. The starry night sky displayed high into the sky, as the moon lit up her room. Alicent had taken the children to bed, as Elaina could not walk properly.
With a sigh, Elaina slowly but painfully tried her best to stand. Her bottom half was sore as the pain reminded her of her loss. Putting on an extra night robe to keep her warm against the breeze of the night, Elaina walked out of her room with no rush.
The knights posted out her door, stiffened unsure of what to do. As this was the first time they had seen the Queen out of her room in two days.
"Your Grace, you are unwell to move about, you must stay--"
"Leave me be, and you will stay here to watch over my room," Elaina demanded, not letting the guard utter another word.
With her stern words, the knights stood up straight and nodded their heads. Elaina sighed and walked away from the two, heading straight through the long halls of the castle. A few of the maids bowed at the sight of the Queen, yet made no comment as they saw the sharp narrowed eyes thrown at them.
As if history repeated itself, Elaina heard hushed voices around the corner. She stopped and leaned against the wall to listen to the familiar voices she knew too well.
"It was not your fault, Ser Harwin, you couldn't have done anything," Rhaenyra said, whispering softly to lure the knight.
Harwin was nothing but a mess, his hair tangled his eyes sunken and his body weakened. He represented nothing like a knight, nothing like a Strong.
Elaina scoffed at the two, confused at their sudden closeness. Had something happened between them that she did not know about? Was his promises to her nothing but lies?
Elaina could not wrap her head around what was happening, everything happened too fast and too suddenly. Her eyes slowly peeked around the corner to watch the two, something she was too familiar with.
