"My sweet Helaena..."

"Why was this issue not brought before Lord Grover? Has he grown so feeble he cannot settle a quarrel over rocks?"

Elaina folded her hands in front of her on the table, covering her blistering nails. A meeting was held with the great council, and Rhaenyra had been forced to attend not much to Elaina's enjoyment.

"I've heard tale that Lord Grover's son now rules Riverrun in all but name," Jasper Wade said.

"Well, he is also a Tully and this remains a Tully problem," Elaina stated, authority in her voice.

"I would agree," Viserys said, glancing at his wife.

"If we may move on, my lords--"

"And yet, the Brackens and the Blackwoods will use any excuse to spill each other's blood," Rhaenyra interrupted Tyland Lannister.

Elaina stared at her stepdaughter unamused, and bored. Knowing the princess was only inputting her two cents because Elaina had been leading the meeting, with Viserys agreeing with her.

"So... this dispute bears looking into. There will be countryfolk who know where the lines have been drawn for generations,"

"That is easy enough," Lord Lyonel said, answering the princess.

Elaina smirked with disinterest, grabbing her silver cup filled with wine, and bringing it to her lips to drink.

"Of course," Elaina whispered with annoyance.

"Ser Tyland," Lyonel said, hoping to cut the tension between the queen and princess.

"Uh, we should address the latest developments in the Stepstones, my lords," Tyland announced, causing Viserys to roll his eyes at the mention of the war.

"Will we ever be shut of that blasted place?" Viserys asked, irritation lacing his voice.

What an idiot king you are. Elaina thought to herself, drinking more of her wine.

The mention of the war continued on before Rhaenyra decided to open her mouth once again, leaving Elaina's mood turn even more foul than it already is.

"We have left it undefended. There should've been fortifications built, watchtowers, a fleet of ships, a garrison of soldiers sent to hold our ground,"
