"I'm sorry..."
•
The Council sat at their respective seats at the table, Rhaenyra behind them serving wine. Elaina and Alicent stood beside their father watching Viserys stare out the window. Otto grinned widely, knowing what was to come.
Elaina felt her hands sweat, her body going cold, she pricked at her skin nervously, drawing more blood to drip down her hands. Alicent glanced around the table, not understanding why she was requested to the meeting.
"Good morrow, my lords," Viserys welcomed nervously.
Elaina looked down as her eyes strained on her fingers, not knowing what to do. Her heart beat erratically, her vision going blurry. Elaina felt as though she was going to die at any moment, she wanted the world to eat her whole and get her away from everyone. But fate had a funny story to tell.
"I have decided to take a new wife," Viserys announced, everyone at the table glanced at one another.
Alicent saw the quick glance Viserys did at her sister, her brows furrowed in confusion. Her heart started to beat faster, scared of her own accusation. Elaina released a shallow breath, feeling her sister tense beside her.
"I intend to marry..." Viserys looked at Elaina's unmeeting gaze, settling on her shaking figure. He closed his eyes for a only a moment, knowing that he may regret his decision.
"—The Lady Elaina Hightower, before spring's end," Viserys claimed, turning his attention to the whole group to see their reaction. Specifically his heir.
Lord Corlys stood from his seat and stared at the king with aggravation, Rhaenyra stared at the girl who she looked at like a sister but now nothing, Alicent glanced between her sister and Rhaenyra with sadness, and Otto smirked in his seat.
"This is an absurdity. My house is Valyrian, the greatest power in the realm," Lord Corlys gritted through his teeth, staring at Viserys with anger in his eyes.
"And I am your king," With that said, Lord Corlys backed down, knowing he was put in his place as Viserys had challenged him.
The lord pushed past his seat and left the room quickly. Rhaenyra stared at Elaina with disbelief and betrayal on her face, her heart skipping beats as she felt her whole world fall apart. Elaina had let a tear slip, before another fell, and then another, and another. Alicent looked at her father in anger, knowing what he had done to her sister.
"Rhaenyra," Viserys called to his daughter who remained silent.
The Princess of The Iron Throne ran from her father and out of the room, not letting anyone else spare another word to her. Alicent looked between her sister and her friend, not knowing who to be there for. Elaina heard the doors slam, and she flinched at the sound knowing Rhaenyra had left.
