Chapter 73: Hold on

"How are you doing, Doctor?" The man asks, while looking at the woman who is seated on the floor and has an indescribable look while looking up to him.

The two of them had a long silence while staring at each other, reading each other's minds. Though he cannot read hers, he knows so well how she's feeling towards his showing up in her new place. How could he not? Ever since she discerned who he was downstairs, she walked—rather, she ran away. She had made it clear that she doesn't want to see him. Not like he could blame her.

"Let me help you get u--" He offers upon noticing the brunette trying to stand up. But...

"I can stand on my own." She cut him off and just as she said, she managed to stand with her own strength.

"What are you doing here?" He silently looks back at the woman who is looking at him spitefully. As much as he wanted to play a prank with her or do anything that may erase the woman's indifference towards him, he simply couldn't because of the mood.

Not to mention, after everything he did.

For the past few weeks, he couldn't do anything but be patient. And wait for the day he could finally show himself to her. Bonten had to stop him altogether from visiting her while she's in the hospital upon waking up.

He had been patient.

But today, he simply couldn't wait any longer.

He wanted to see her.

He expected her to be angry.

But not this angry.

He looks deeply into her gray eyes and sees something she had never shown before.

Hatred.

"What is it? Have you come to collect my life?" She asks with her voice laced with so much resentment. Not only her eyes, but her voice is also laced with rage. Something he didn't expect after getting close to her after all this time.

"No." He replies calmly.

"I have come to..." He continues while clenching on his jaws but couldn't finish his sentence. It's because his pride is stopping him to say that word.

"...make up for what happened." He finished while looking down, still hesitant because of his thick pride.

"Make up?" As he hears this, he raised his head and sees the woman tearing up.

"Why are words so easy for you to say?" She continues as a tear seep out of her eyes. On the other hand, he only lends her his ears for what's about to come. For what he deserves.
