"Chug! Chug! Chug!..." the kids were chanting as Billy was doing what they call a Keg Stand Contest. Steve, Nancy, Jonathan, Robin and Eddie were standing on the sidelines, watching it all.
"I don't understand what's the point in all this. How can they consider this to be fun?" Nancy argued as she watched Billy chugging away like there was no tomorrow. It hurt her throat just watching him slurping it all in one go.
"I thought this was supposed to be a small gathering?" Robin asked, remember Tammy mentioning that there was only going to be a few of them.
"Guess someone didn't get the message." Steve mumbled. Finally, Billy finished as a squirt of beer shot out of his mouth and dripped down his naked chest.
"20 SECONDS!?!?!?!?!?! NEW RECORD! BILLY'S THE NEW KEG KING!" one of the guys screamed out loud as Billy walked through the crowd, wiping his lips with the back of his hands. Everyone was hooting and hollering or mumbling to figure out how that was even possible for Billy to do that. Billy strut over towards them with a smirk on their faces.
"Isn't this great?" He asked, laughing, "this is the most fun I've had since... ever!"
"Billy, you're letting your guard down," Steve pointed out to him. Billy shot him a glare.
"How so?"
"You don't think we don't know how you were able to drink that whole keg in 20 seconds?" Nancy asked him, "You couldn't added a few more seconds?"
"Hey, I was set to break a goal. I did it. Besides, I can't help how easy it was given my monster side."
"Yeah, but 20 seconds? People are out there wondering how you even did that? No, normal person could drink that down in 20 seconds. Worst, some of those boys out there are going to try and outdo you." Nancy warned him.
"I'll like to see them try." Billy said cockily. Nancy opened her mouth to say something when a loud screaming of 'canon ball' echoed through the air. They turned their attention to see a bunch of people jumping into the pool, everyone laughing and splashing around.
"You're turn Wheeler!"
Nancy didn't understand what was going on till she found herself being picked up in someone's hands and being thrusted into the pool. She screamed at the top of her lungs before she plunged through the surface. Nancy was soon flooded with horrible thoughts-- memories of the times Papa would force her into that small metal box like he would with El and try to force her to find people or things, whatever it was.
She struggled as she tried to make her way to the surface. She tried to keep afloat but she kept fumbling between focusing on swimming to pulling back into those horrible memories. As she felt herself falling back under the surface, she felt two pairs of arms grabbing her arms which pulled her back up.
"We got you, Nance! You're alright. Eddie and I are here!" Robin's voice echoed through her ears as they swam her to the side of the pool towards where Billy, Steve, and Jonathan were standing on the side. They reached down and pulled her out of the pool. She collapsed on her knees and hands, gasping for air.
"Nancy, are you alright?" Robin asked, lightly patting Nancy's back. Nancy didn't say anything as she pulled herself off her knees and hurried over towards the house. She rushed through the dining room till she found herself in the bathroom. Nancy slammed the door behind her and locked it. She stumbled till she sat on the toilet seat, taking in a deep breath, before she felt the tears streaming down her face.
"What's her problem?" the boy, who threw Nancy into the pool, asked while Robin and Eddie went rushing in after her. They stumbled around the dining room till they made their way to the bathroom.
"Nancy?" Robin called out while she lightly knocked on the door. No one responded, which gave the two of them the hint she wanted to be left alone.
"Hey, I'm going to see if there's another restroom to dry off." Robin told Eddie while she made her way to find the closest restroom. Eddie hurried over towards where he found the guest room. He began to strip his shirt off then tossed it over the trunk in front of the bed. As he was about to unzip his pants, a knocking billowed through the room.
"Who is it?" Eddie called out. The door opened to find Steve walking in before shutting the door behind him.
"Hey, how's Nancy doing?" Steve asked.
"She's having a traumatic episode, what do you think?" Eddie growled at him as he finished pulling off his pants then tossing it with his shirt before moving towards his shoes and socks.
"Why do you seem mad at me?" Steve asked. Eddie tossed his shoes and socks off to the side somewhere before glaring at him.
"Because we just had to be here, didn't we Steve?" Eddie asked, "We have to appear normal, right? It was a must that we go to this party."
"What? I thought we would have some fun. Besides, parties are what normal kids do--"
"Maybe normal's overrated?" Eddie asked, "Because the only one here having fun seems to be Billy. You aren't even finding it fun here whatsoever like most of us. So why don't we, as soon as Robin, Nancy and I get dried up, just head home?"
"But the party's not over--"
"WHO CARES?!?!?! People probably leave parties early all the time! We're miserable, Steve! If you're so hellbent being here, you stay. But I'm going home as soon as my clothes dry." Eddie declared to him.
"Eddie, I want you to stay. I want us all to have fun! But it seems like everyone is hellbent on stay tied up to the past." Steve argued.
"Steve, we all have different taste in fun. Why don't you respect ours, we'll respect yours, right?" Eddie advised Steve while pushing his hair behind his ears. Steve reached out his hand and placed it on top of Eddie's shoulder.
"I just wanted to hang out with you. Maybe dance and listen to music, I didn't want to stay hidden away in our new houses. I wanted us to get out and have some fun." Steve told him.
"And that's fine, but why not create our own fun where we don't have to pretend to be something we're not and we are all comfortable... and also so Nancy or any of us don't have any horrible flashbacks." Eddie suggested to Steve.
"Okay, we'll do that next time, I promise." Steve said before pulling Eddie into a light hug. Just as Eddie wrapped his arms around Steve's waist, the door flung opened, causing the two to dart their heads to the side to see Carol standing in the doorway. As fast as she had entered, she was quick to vanish, leaving the two of them stun to their place.
